I am now breaking in ( about 90 - 100 hours ) the Jantzen Superior-Z capacitors on my type AA crossovers. Can’t believe what a step up the sound can be, crystal clear sonics and the soundstage has expanded well past my rear wall! My K-horns seem ready to take on the best of Wilson or Focal speakers.

I have a set of new-to-me Klipschorn B, 1968 vintage - they have the original A crossovers.
It has been suggested to switch to the AA crossover (for tweeter protection), and it has also been suggested to stay with the original An (for quality of sound).
I know I need to (at minimum) update the caps, but am wondering if I should make the switch to AA or not.

Does anyone have experience with both versions of the crossovers, and what do you think?

Next to a couple universal DeanG builds, the AA is the best sounding Klipsch network I've had the pleasure to handle, it takes a little volume on the dial to get the net to "fill out/balance out" but that "simpler is better" thing certainly applies to the AA. It wants the original parts, but it makes those parts do thier best........

I had a set of Belles with all original mid '70s components on a set of V-Cap OIMPs. and it took some SERIOUS modifications to beat that. I became smitten with a 2" modded setup running on a set of universal types, but lemme tell you - the AA setup was really flippin' good, and there were a couple of points in frustration that I went back to it - that is until I got the right horn and crossover to do the 2" right. Did a number of 1" changes too, that AA really stands up.

AA "does" also really like the "solder terminal" 80ish era version of the K55V too, smoooooooooooth as can be........

Good grief - it’s been that long already? I replaced the caps, and left the rest of the A crossover as is. For the rest of the speaker, I replaced the rubber seals on the mid-range, and put a generic dynamat-like material on the outside of the midrange horn. Thought I would listen to them for a spell until I figure out what else I’d like to do…and here we are - over a year later. ‍

Are those several shrunken trophy heads, mounted on the walls above your Khorns, sound diffusers, all that’s left of the people who, before hearing your stereo, claimed unequivocally that “horns squawk and honk”, or some combination of the two?

I have a similar collection (buried in the basement) beneath my Klipschorns.

My sister and BIL had a very large collection of the Bosson heads. He was stationed at Greenham Common, England many moons ago. Always freaked me out as they all appeared to be staring at me, lol.

Actually, it was THIS guy that was buzzing at 85db to 108db. I fixed him good - the nerve! (Actually a little rubber washer and a drop of glue neutered him).
