The DIY Wires Look Great I did some with 6 -14 gauge Wires and Braided them with Spade Terminals on both ends.....I was using 10 gauge Speaker Wire before.

Thanks, Mike. Yeah sometimes you gotta use what you have lol. Do you know what gauge you ended up with? Or what gauge mine are, since they're 2 x 16 ga?
 
Made a little progress today, but I'm not quite there yet.
The 48" long bench that's holding the Teac components is only loosely stacked together to see how it would look.
I'm contemplating making it a little lower still, or maybe raising the amp higher to lessen the gap.

As it sits the bench's legs are 9.5" long and there's 3" between the top of the amp and the bottom of the bench. I'm open to suggestions as to lower or leave the bench's current height, leave or raise the amp's height and also if the bench's amount of overhang on the sides (7") looks about right.

In the pic you'll also see both Jamos, both NHTs and the Teac tape deck (center) for the first time.
The Jamos just got their 'soul patch' painted black with SEM Trim Black, a matte finish. I run my speakers without grills permanently and I never cared for the Jamo's piece on the bottom in silver. They also need stands.

Please excuse the spaghetti mess, once the construction is done I'll clean all that up.

So the Yamaha C-2 developed an issue with the Right channel during the second night of listening. The seller did say that it has been in storage for a while and will need to be gone through, so no surprise. However, I'm glad I got in one good night of reference listening with it so I know what it's capable of.

Enter the back-up preamp: NAD 1155



I'm on the second day of listening to the NAD. I felt like though it sounds very good and enjoyable it lacks that surgical precision, the incredible clarity of the Yamaha pre. Keep in mind this is all CD listening with very good recordings, I'm not comparing phono stages.
Today I did some back to back comparisons between the NAD pre / Yamaha power amp combo and the Teac integrated amp driving the NHTs, all else constant.
Same songs of course. The Teac hands down sounds better and very similar to the Yamaha pre. Even though the Teac can't go as loud as it only has 1/3 the power, it still has a fuller bottom-end with way more bass definition and noticeably more top-end clarity and detail.
The NAD still sounds excellent and was a worthwhile addition. When not comparing it back to back with anything else it only leaves me wishing for more on certain recordings. Its mids can get slightly overbearing but not to the point of listening fatigue.

The next back to back comparison will be the NHTs to the Jamos after I build stands for the Jamos, get them up to the proper height.
The Jamos have never seen more than 80 watts (from the Teac at 4 ohm) and I want to see how they sound with 200 watts on tap (from the Yamaha P1600 at 4 ohm) and the new speaker cables.

Kraut, great work on the bench! Just my opinion but, I think it will look even better if you kill some of the space between the top of the amp and bottom of the bench. Either way, lowering the bench or raising the amp should bring it all together/make it look complete.

As far as the overhang, it could use a little trimming back unless you have a reason for the extra length.

Overall, it's looking great!

Thanks for the input, that gap was bothering me, too.
I just tried something - just applied more hockey pucks and this is the result:



I like it much better, I'm going to play with the overhang now and then take everything down to the wood shop for finishing.
Regarding the overhang: I wanted as much as looks good because the Teac components weigh 40 lbs together, or as much as a full 5 gallon bucket of water. So I was trying to keep bowing in check, but I will have to add a piece of wood to the underside anyway now.

Yes!! Much better! :thumbsup:
 
A little progress on the bench. I added some maple pieces on the underside, glued and screwed, to keep bowing in check. Then everything got belt sanded, routed and block sanded and is now ready for assembly via dowels and glue and then several coats of polyurethane.
