LARGE Advent tweeter replacement

Sparkler

I recently picked up another set of Large Advent speakers at our local Goodwill. They are the bullnose type cabs and are in absolute pristine condition. The corners and edges are sharp and I cannot find a flaw anywhere on them. The grill cloth is like new as well. When I removed the grills, I noticed that somewhere along the line someone had replaced one of the orange fried egg tweeters with a small black horn type tweeter. My question is this. Would you replace it with an original orange or would you go with the new style black Advent tweeters? I have never had the opportunity to listen to the newer ones and I came here to look for some SOUND advice. See what I did there? BTW, I was forced to pay $29.99 for the set. This makes the second time I've pooped my pants in the Goodwill.

Do the small original Advents use the same tweeter? I have a set sitting in the work bench.

They usually have the green fried egg tweeters, different animal but doable. You might have to change crossover value for the green vs the orange

Sweet find! I found a set for ~$16 at one of our local thrift stores (Miracle Hill) a few months ago, however they're not quite mint. The cabinets look great but the grills have a little bit of wear and tear (minor). Had to refoam mine for an additional $22.50. I feel you on the pooping your pants part: I can still remember the feeling I felt seeing them from across the store and running to them.

But that feeling wasn't nearly as good as finding Polk Monitor 10Bs a few weeks ago at Goodwill. Had to fork over $42 for those.:banana::banana:

The bullnosed Advents are usually referred to as the OLA (Old or Original Large Advent, depending on who you're talking to) and that model had 2 cross-over designs. Then Advent changed the tweeter. Mr. Kloss was kind of a loose cannon in this regard, as there were changes (undocumented) by Advent. I have the latest cross-over. Advents, AR and Dynaco all had that "East Coast" sound if you will.

Ok, sorry. I have the chamfered edge.
It all started with the Advent identify thread where the op called that chamfered edge bullnose and many thought that was right. marble counter tops have a bullnose edge, rounded to help prevent chipping and make them nicer to have around the house.

Has it been determined whether you have the Original Large Advents or the New Large Advents? Are the fried egg tweeters mounted on the masonite board (OLA) or are they the flush mounted (NLA) version?

Thank you for the advice. I found a nice used orange fried egg and replaced the odd one. HUGE difference.

What is it about Advent tweeters?? I had a set of 2 way large ones in the 80's, cooked the tweeters and at the time,
sold em for some new Bostons, that were great till they caught the foam disease...last good speakers that I bought..(yes i'm due)
Daily driver (no pun) is a classic Stephens 106ax, 50 or so years old with original tweeter.

HELP I need a replacement tweeter for my Advent 1 speakers, its the newer small fried egg tweeter
the flush mounted (NLA) version? Any help would be appreciated
