Lava Lamps

I got this Lava lamp last month at an antique mall. Love this thing. It is one of 2 in the listening room. I have a green lamp in the living room :)

 
I finally decided to buy another lava lamp. It took a while to locate one I liked, but I found one a GW for $4.00 in blue liquid with green wax. I went into GW yesterday and they had four more there, including one shaped like a rocket with fins. Unfortunately, it was really beat up.

Here's a photo of mine with three drawing mannequins. The mannequins used to always be on the cover of Stereo Review back in the 70s so I started collecting them.

I have been wanting a lava lamp for a while now but just could not justify $25+ for a 'novelty' item. Luck was with me today at a resale shop. They had some back ground music playing when I paid for my purchase. The song was Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly. I took that as a sign this lamp was just meant to be mine. ($5.00 BTW)

However I can not get my camera to get the same colors I see. So, the first shot is my actual lamp and the second is just to show the actual colors. ( I have tried different white balance settings and adjusting in photoshop.)

I can't even afford $100 on the dac that I want and someone had to throw lava lamps into the audio equation. Now I want one too. :no:

OOPS!...that would be me! I don't even HAVE a lava lamp but noticed how many here posted photos of them as part of their set ups. Yeah, I gotta get one also...
 
Wow! The Lava Lamp tread is still going. Cool.

I just happened to catch a bit of "Dark Shadows" with Johnny Depp on TV. I love the scene where the Vampire Barnabas Collins sees a Lava Lamp for the first time, is totally enthralled with it and asks, "What is the Pulsating Blood Urn?"

Priceless.

You may want to re-think the positioning of that lava lamp so close to your gear since you live in earthquake country. During the '94 Northridge quake, my lava lamp fell from my mantel and made one helluva big, sloppy mess.

Glad you like the thread! To illustrate what a wealth of information I am on electronics in general and vintage audio in particular, of all the threads I started, this one seems to be the 2nd most popular, having virtually nothing to do with audio.

Also, I can't take too much credit for the thread either! I only started it since I saw so many members' audio set up photos with cool lava lamps in the pictures that it caught my eye!
