The topic: Anything Lee Morgan.

This came in the mail yesterday. Stereo version. It sure sounds great this morning before work.

Pacific Jazz Records.....The Sidewinder

I am ambivalent with regards to Lee Morgan. I am somewhat put off by an excessive "brassiness" to his sound.
BTW just a personal reaction.

My favorite Lee Morgan tune is "CEORA".

Always one in a crowd...

Truth be told I enjoy his work during the early 60's the most. His 50's stuff is great but to me the most exceptional album would have been Vol. 3. Of course, with Blakey is a different story... he always showed impeccable taste and judgement. That said it's hard to sound bad with THAT band behind you.

Everyone should have a copy of The Sidewinder. I have two (original LP and 70s reissue LP).

Everyone should have a copy of The Sidewinder.

True.

And Rumproller

I find some of his later stuff a little bland, but his Blue Note material cooks.

Love Morgan. He's the first trumpet player I got into, via Blue Train.

I agree with Ken, but would add that everybody should have a copy of The Sidewinder AND Search For The New Land.
