Lepai Tripath Amp

The Lepai LP2020A+ 2020 Tripath amp is very cool and sounds good too.

The 20 wpc is plenty loud with my 87db Paradigm Atom loudspeakers. If you turn up the volume too high it distorts, but I've read a better and more robust power supply solves the problem. I have a 13.8 volt 3 amp regulated power supply to try, but I don't want to cut the cord of the wall plug power supply to try it yet.

If you haven't seen inside photos here they are.

There are a few threads on this amp

I have one and listen to it at night. Nice small footprint. Very Blue light though

Many people on this site like this amp
What's not to like for $20

It sounds good to a certain point so I can see how others like it too.

Thought of using it for the bedroom or office, but I'm in the process of selling off my stereos to consolidate one nice system in the living room, so I will use it as a 'stop gap' amp.

My preamp from one system and the tube integrated from the other will be gone this week, so I'll be without an amp. I plan on using the Lepai for the tv until I find a ss integrated for the living room system (tv/sports/movie/music).

I have one as well and for 20 bucks you can't beat it. Been meaning to buy a better power supply for it to see the difference folks speak of.

Love the small size, with some small speakers it makes a great pc system or a nice low volume system for nighttime as stated in an earlier post.

Have a small summer bungalow in the country I want to buy another one for.

I hate that case. I just can't get over it. I guess I'm just a T amp snob. Sad but true.

I run a system out in my workshop a Raspberry PI Pandora server a Lepai LP2020A+ amp, 5 amp power supply and a pair of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR. Total cost about $175. The PI and the Lepai are so small they are zip tied to the underside of a shelf so they take up no usable space. Sometimes I just stop and listen because it sounds great. I good sounding system with all new parts for $175 you cannot beat that.

I have a regulated 13.8 volt 3 amp power supply that should work just fine. The transformer is rated at 12 volt 3 amp, and the filter cap at 16 volt, so I should be good.

I use a Lepai with my computer, feeding a pair of DLK Modular Ones, and it sounds good - but every now and then I sense it running out of steam. I also have a regulated 12v 3A supply (brick, not wall wart), and one of these days I may get a 5A and see if it has more oomph.

Having owned a Tripath amp that came with a 3 amp PS, I found it fell short of the mark on transients. The 5 amp PS solved that.
Was your 3a p/s a wall wart or regulated p/s?
I already own a regulated 3a 13.8v p/s, and its surely has to be better than the 2a 12v wall wart that came with the Lepai. Before I invest in a more robust p/s for the Lepai, I will be looking for a modern ss integrated amp with higher power as I downsize to only one system. The Lepai will be my stop gap amp.

How about this one, Ross. NMST modded Lepai with 5 amp PS. Sounds WAAAAY better than a stock lepai. It sounds great, even better than my Topping TP21.

I have seen that one Mark. Just a bit of an improvement over the original. I could live with it I do believe.

My god man. Who sells that? He might have to shut up and take my money.

CyanogenMod HTC One. Android 4.3.
