That doesn't sound right, MTX makes car speakers and was founded in 1979.

I suspect mhardy6647 is on the right track but Bozak is an intriguing possibility. I hope the builder didn't take the secret to the grave!

I have a pair of DIY Karlson enclosures with Altec 604's that look very similar to your cabinets.

Get a pic. It won't be the first cabinet with a modern replacement in it.

I've seen Pyle, Radio shack and wacky ones with colored dustcaps with lightening bolts and other stuff on them.

That is a late 80's - early 90's MTX cranker. It was their "professional series" full-range (-ish) guitar/PA speaker.
