Let's see and hear about your coolest 12" singles:

This is another one I really like, the Ministry 12" 45rpm single for the songs "All Day" and "Everyday is Like Halloween." Since each song is spread out over an entire side of the record, the sound quality is a little better than the album or CD versions I've heard.

The U.S. releases of these singles had either blue, red, green, or yellow colored sleeves, and obviously mine is the yellow version. I have no idea if any particular color is less common than the others, although I've never seen a green or red one in years of record buying, and the blue one seems to pop up all over the place.

That last Smiths disc on the first page is a great selection of songs, and on some sweet looking vinyl.

I have the blue version in my collection of 12" goodies.

I would KILL for those Smiths singles. My wife hating them just makes me like them more :)

Will have to post a couple of my goodies later.

I think this was my first 12" i got back when I started collecting. I'm a fan of Twin Peaks, David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, so picking this up was a no-brainer.

I've got several hundred, so I just pulled some examples that would be more recognized... I have a lot of DJ singles that are really great, but probably not well known outside a dance club. House kinda house stuff... trance, Drum and bass, dub, electronicia...

I've also got a lot more you would all know, but it would take me all night to take pictures and list..

From top left across to bottom...

C&C Music Factory - Things that make you go hmmmm...
CCCP - Orient Express
CCCP - United States of America / American & Soviets
Microchip League - New York

FUnkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove
MARRS - Pump Up the Volume
Apollo 440 - Stop The Rock
Morris Day - The Oak Tree (upside down oops)

Herbie Hancock - Rockit
Ed Rush & NICO - Technology
Dream Academy - The World
Yello - Oh Yeah

Prodigy - Firestarter
Grandmaster Flash U Know What Time It Is
Falco - Der Kommissar
SOHO - Hippychick

Nope, just Pumped full of drugs, Taris Shevchenko, and the one released w/ Republic.

I have The Cure - Fascination Street 12" single, btw. :D

Also 45rpm. I like the guitar work on that one.

Well that's my favorite among their eps anyway, and I just played it about 30 minutes ago. A number of days ago I pulled out Four Calendar Cafe and was then inspired to start a thread about it that apparently no one saw: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=426742

I actually don't have that one. Anything off Disintegration will automatically be great though.

That collection of Smiths 12" is awesome. Got all the albums on Rough Trade but never found a 12". Need to keep looking!

Nice set of dance 12" earlier on. Forgot to photograph Prodigy - No Good (Start the Dance), the best thing they ever recorded.

A few I've collected over the years

Frankie - Two tribes (mine), Relax, (the wife's) - think she wins that one - mine is about war, hers is about sex...
Del Amitri - engraved picture of the band on one side, move away jimmy blue on the other side
PF Project - Choose Life - Awesome song based on the opening of Trainspotting
The Firm - Star Trekkin' - Not sure if this was deleted or withdrawn, was insanely popular for about a month
Prince - Sexy MF. Picture shaped disk, not really a 12"
White Town - Your Woman - cool song, recorded at home

Second Pic
Salt Tank - Eugina (Pacific Diva) - wonderful laid back mellow electronica
The Funky Worm Hustle - got in a job lot of 12" for free.
DJ Shadow Handmade - personalized for me
Brooklym Bounce - Club Bizarre - awesome energy in this one
Deee-Lite - Groove is in the heart - Best use of samples ever
Re-flex - The Politics of Dancing - I don't think I've even played this

Third Pic from Top
New Order - Blue Monday - missing the sleve
Pet Shop Boys - One More Chance - their first single before they signed to EMI. Has a different version of West End Girls on the B side
Portishead - Over - Unlabelled, but I think it's Over
The The - Armageddon Days Are Here (again) - etched on the other side with the artwork (dove and gun) from Mind Bomb.
Money Mark - Hand in your Head - Promo copy
Unkle - Rabbit in your headlights - cut out sleve
Peshay vs Dj Shadow - What Does Your Soul Look Like
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Higher Ground 12" picture disc! Have another RHCP record somwhere with cut out paper chillis.
Coldcut - More Beats and Pieces - the cover is from the second version, but the record itself is the first version.
DJ Shadow (again) - High Noon - UK release only
Portishead - Chase the Tear - came out a couple of weeks ago, raising money for Amnesty International

Peter Koppes and The Well
Iridescence

1991 Phantom Records
Australian pressing
12" 45rpm ep on blue vinyl

This was part of a small collection I bought on the auction site of uncommon singles/eps by Australian bands, all having direct ties to one of my favorite bands, The Church. Koppes was one of the original members of the band and played guitar on several of their albums. This is one of Koppe's solo efforts with The Well, and it sounds pretty much like The Church's 1990 album Gold Afternoon Fix: still psychedelic, but definitely leaning toward a more traditional rock sound (which was flipped on its head with the following albums!).

It's on translucent blue vinyl, which is difficult to see in the picture unless you look at the outer edge of the vinyl.

Good to hear I'm not the only Church fan around here.. There was a record store here that was going out of business so I picked up all the Church Lp's they had for a buck or two each.. all sealed... GOOD STUFF!!!!!

I was beginning to think I was the only fan of the band on AK. One of the things I love about The Church is that, IMO at least, to this day they continue to release really good albums, which is probably not something too many bands formed in the early 80s can say.

I finally got a vinyl copy of Priest=Aura several years ago - that's my favorite album by them. But so far I've avoided playing the record because I want to save it for when I have a better analog setup, although talking about it now kind of makes me want to play it. It's such a densely-layered album, so I have high expectations. The CD remaster is awful, by the way. I bought two different copies thinking the first was defective because it had a regular tick in the background throughout, like the sound you hear with CDs when there's a read error. They both had it.

How did you get a personalized DJ Shadow record?!

It doesn't look like they do it any more, but djshadow.com used to offer 5-6 different recordings on the Handmade label - you put your order in, and when they have enough orders, they will press records, so it can be quite a wait.

I bought the 1998 Evening Session recording, and it comes with a personalized sleeve 'The Record Belongs to _______' with my name on it, and a number. I expected the name to be quite plain, but it was really artistically done. Will try to get a picture up online.

I've just noticed they also offered The Outsider Instrumentals - I could never get into that record, but loved the beats, so this would be perfect. Alas, it's also no longer available.

I got "Bamboleo" by the Gipsy Kings today. One of my wife's favorite songs, so it was worth it just for that.

Chris
