LFD owners thread

Well, looks like I just ordered an LFD MK IV Signature. Should be here in 2 weeks and I'm very excited for it's arrival. I can't wait to hear what all the fuss is about.

Congrats. Did you order the LFD cables? I know one dealer who says they are mandatory.

No. I bought this used through Gene Rubin and he didn't mention LFD cables at all. I had planned on trying some DNM cables in the next month or so. My choice of DNM is not based on any subjective review or anything I've read online per se, but rather the success of these cables in a buddy of mine's setup.

Any recommendations other than LFD cables?

Gene is the guy who recommends the LFD cables.

I am using Analysis Plus at present. Also had great results with Chord Company.
 
Greetings from Seattle! i hadnt heard of LFD until i asked Gene Rubin about it. Bought a LFD LE V+ from him. Had a Exposure 2010S before that. Interesting. Sound is very detailed so far but a bit laid back. I find I need more volume to really feel the music if you get my drift. I've been looking for information or forums on LFD, very scarce.
 
Gene is a great guy and dealer. I have been auditioning a Belles amp that I got from him. I thought about moving up to the new LFD Mistral 2018 however it was out of my budget and I am really in the market for an amp with excellent low volume performance. With that in mind and after some research I bought a Sugden A21. I will have it next week. Having to turn the music up to feel it is what I am trying to avoid. My Heed sounds very good at low volume the Belles, not so much.

I am in a 10x10 room. I like Quad ESL's but won't own them. I love my current speakers and may get a pair of something else just for contrast. I'm sure your setup sounds lovely!

after listening for a bit i find i dont have to turn up the volume too much anymore. I do love the sound of the LFD and am probably done with major upgrades of my system. Gene was very patient with me and all my questions.
 
...and after more listening the Belles is coming in to it's own. Even low level listening sounds good. Gene is patient, indeed.
 
Just got my mkIV SE 30 min ago.

letting it acclimate to inside temperature. It was bone cold when I took it out of the box.

anyone have a copy of the manual? Or can explain the controls before I start toying with it. Obviously volume on far right but which is input select? What’s the other knob? How do I know what input number? Etc.

UPDATE: figured out the controls. Called Gene Rubin (great guy!)
Far left is selector knob with knob turned far left equals input 1, then just turn clockwise click, input 2,3,4,5.
Middle knob is Source/Mute/Tape

Wow...the LFD is a lovely amp. Not a lot of room for connections and I like the Belles binding posts better. But for straight up looks the LFD is understated beauty. Remember, I have the entry level Mistral.
 
The LFD is staying. As much as I love the Belles, the Mistral is in another league for engagement. Outstanding. One niggle is that it is definitely noisier than the Belles. More like the Sugden that I had briefly. I can live with it.

I’m assuming you mean nosier on the phono? My mk iv I can’t even tell if it’s on or not :)

Primarily. The Belles was dead silent. The LFD is quieter than the Sugden but not as quiet as the Belles. However, the music sounds sublime so...
 
I heard the Mistral a while back in Portland and thought it was a lovely sounding amp, I thought the designer created a balance of virtues made it hard to fault, congrats Art.
