LG plasma tv audio/video issue

Hi,
I have a 10yr old 42" LG plasma tv. Problem is that after about fifteen minutes of running fine, the audio drops out and after about another fifteen minutes the video is gone. I can hear a faint whining.
Power it off then on, it starts working again and then the whole cycle repeats. There is also a greenish vertical line on the right side, which used to go away as the TV warmed up, but not it has become permanent. There was also one on the left side but it has disappeared now.

Maybe it's on it's last leg, but still I want to give it a try and repair it. Even after ten years, the picture quality is perfect. I have a 55" 4k tv, but it's picture quality is nowhere near, even though it has four times the resolution.
Regarding repair, could it be bad caps? Or maybe it needs cleaning.
The first "task" is getting it down, as it weighs a ton
 
Check the caps in the power supplies, and the other boards. Especially if the caps are no name china caps Look for deformed, leaking caps. Check the soldering. The Lead-Free solder is lousy. Check for anything building up between solder joints. Also which model tv is it?

I know that capacitors in tv's can squeal. I had one that when you turned it on, a whistling sound would fill the room and it would shut down after about 1 minute. One of the main power supply capacitors had vented and was squealing through busted open slits.

If you can test it with the back off. Listen for where the whining might be coming from.
 
FYI/FWIW, there are a lot of flat screen TV fixin' videos on YouTube. In many cases there are model-specific videos, in other cases you may find symptom-based videos. The overall functions are very similar so even symptom based videos can be very helpful.

Try a Google search for "color bars on LG plasma TV".

My upstairs TeeVee is an LG plasma. 60 inch. Bought it back in 2007 I would guess. Still kicking. If I had known plasma displays were going extinct (when they did) I swear I would have bought a couple on deep discount.

Resolution is not everything. This plasma looks great. I cannot imagine how many hours on it.

Totally agree. My movie rig still consists of a 60" Panasonic plasma!
 
When I retired my 1st Panasonic plasma (still working then and still worked as of a couple weeks ago when I last fired it up) had over 5000 hours on it. It was purchased 2006, give or take. The set that replaced it (for bigger screen and 1080p) was also a Panasonic plasma, and I'm watching that out of the corner of my eye as I type this.
