Line Direct on Sansui Integrated amps?

Hi again folks. I have discovered that I have been in error thinking that the "direct" inputs on Sansui Integrated amps (specifically the Alpha 907NRA but I suspect this will apply much more broadly) were meant to be used as a "power amp direct" input in that they bypass the pre section and send a signal direct to the power amp. If this was the case then this means that only a component with pre-amp capabilities should be plugged into those inputs.
However this schematic, taken from the Audio Database Archive, seems to indicate that the signal from the "direct" plugs does indeed pass through a volume control.

My question then is this: Does this mean that the "direct" plugs pass through a different part of the volume control (Sansui volume pots do seem to be much longer with many more sections to them than other volume controls I've seen) and if so does that mean that if we use the "direct" plugs we are effectively turning the integrated amp into a power amp with a passive volume control in front of it?

Long question I know but I'm pretty sure I'm asking it in the right place.

Short answer is yes, power in direct has a passive volume control at the front end of the power amplifiers

If and when you get the time I'd be interested to hear the long version of that answer because a multiple pass volume control and the theory behind its use sounds very interesting.
 
Sansui's volume controls are 6gang potentiometers that alter at the same time the pre amp's volume and the power amp's volume . That's why they are so long. Yes effectively the volume control as john said, alters the level of the power amp.
You have no problem.

They only two integrated amplifiers that had separate level controls for the power amp where the AU-X1 and AU-X1111 .When I say separate level controls , I mean that the volume control was a 4 gang potentiometer only for the pre amp and power amp while both are tied together. When the power amp was separated then the extra two level controls take control. Both were referred as MASTER INTGRATED AMPLIFIER .
The Master Company of the kind made MASTER AMPLIFIERS.
