Listened to a $28K Snell/Krell system

The achieving of enlightenment is not at all a rational or methodical process. It is completely non-rational, unexplainable, and intuitive. High end systems are designed to put the student in a state where he can abandon logic and make the leap upward into enlightenment. In Japan, this state of enlightenment is called "satori."1

VinInfinity........You've got it going on pretty good from the way I see it. Acoustical panels were the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw your listening room photos. A couple bass traps in the back corners, some absorbing panels on the back wall, and a couple diffusion panels on each side wall will yield major improvements in the way your system sounds in that room. A couple of diffusion panels hanging from the overhead would be a benefit, too. Check out ATS Acoustics, and Echo Busters. Both companies products have dramatically improved two seperate listen spaces for me. It's a small investment for some big improvements.

:) Thank you for the quote. So true, I wasn't listening for it to sound good, I didn't need to. It just was what it was. And what it was, was downright amazing. Enlightening even.

Thanks for the tips, I had been thinking about room treatments after reading a thread here on AK. But I didn't know where exactly to put them. I guess I can do the math or mirror method for the sidewalls.

Maybe if it's 20-ga monster? I'm not defending it as speaker wire I've just gotten it at almost-nothing clearance prices. I've never spent a lot on 'speaker wires' as opposed to erm, an electrically conducting wire which is what speaker wires are, and probably never will. What's funny about wires and vintage gear is that back in the day in homes people used lamp cord, the cheap 18-ga stuff.
 
Thats true, madman. And people paid a lot less attention to speaker phasing/polarity I feel. To this day, many users don't know how important it is to phase both speakers properly.

For laughs, I swapped out my 14awg GE speaker cables on my sx-1050 system and put in 22awg from my POS Aiwa all-in-one (which was tossed years ago!) and the difference was there, but pretty minimal.

Getting back to topic.... Man I wish I could've heard that system! Krell is on my 'if I ever get rich' list! :yes:

Read post #37 - the Krell system is out of my mind :)

I don't know what gauge the wiring in the Kappas is, but it has some pretty decent size monster cable in there stock from the factory.

5-Way speakers with 7 drivers, the nest of wires is pretty huge.
