Looking for a new phono pre

One of the few pieces of advice I ever got for system building was tube phono , ss amp. Totally sounds like it's BS , but it was uttered in such a way that I still remember it .

I have had a demo of Pro-Ject's Box S. It's a 2 tube preamp for about $450, and is SO nice.

You spend you good hard earned money on their product and they dont give a power cord?! I wont spend a dime for their product!

I'm always suspicious of people who say one stage or another has GOT to be tube or solid state. Things that make you go HMMMMMMMM -_-

Hagerman Labs! I keep trying other "better" preamps, but I always go back to my Bugle 2. I am sure his tube ones are the real deal also. Seriously good stuff, especially for the price. My Bugle 2 is dead quiet and just gets out of the way.

An alternative would be a good SS phono-stage and a tube buffer. Should be able to come in under $500.
