While that is a fairly comprehensive list of the capacitors, it does not address the various semiconductors in the unit which may need review. The SX-434 is laden with 2SA725, 2SC1318, and 2SC1344 devices, which have a history of being problematic noise-makers. They are on the "shoot-on-sight" list of problem devices:

Did you find the service manual on hifi engine or elsewhere? That will help you a lot. It references transistors that you can map to modern equivalents.

Last year I embarked on an SX-434 rebuild, my first such endeavor - it was really successful! At the time, I wasn't confident enough to pick and order my own parts (it's confusing at first for sure) so I used an ebay kit.
It worked out ok (actually, I love how it transformed my SX-434. Very noticeable improvement) but in hindsight I should have and could have pretty easily made my own list and order. I had a lot of help from generous people on this forum who are amazingly patient and helpful, even with what I'm sure were novice questions.

The last kit I tried (for an SX-636) included a part that was ridiculous for the particular spot it was supposedly intended for, and I didn't use some of the other parts. o_O Lesson learned.

An exception might be a case where you are getting the parts from someone you know who uses the same parts in their rebuilds. I think there are some good, proven kits out there for Marantz for example, from people who do professional rebuilds and actually contribute on this forum. I trust those guys. I don't know of any like that for Pioneer SX's.

Fromnowon,I also plan on a rebuild of my SX-939 and like you, I didn't feel confident enough to make my own parts list so I ordered one off eBay from William R. Green, Circle Stereo out of Dripping Springs, TX. Pertaining to your SX-434 rebuild, I also want to raise the diodes up off the PS board..what did you use as the insulator around the leads and the diode itself? Just some sort of thermal sleeves? Any do's and don'ts you remember? I realize the 939 isn't the 434 but maybe some of the methods pertain to both models. Thanks for any info!

I tried to follow this advice from Larry:
If you install new diodes on the board, Put a kink in the leads about a 1/4" down. This will raise the diodes up off the board, reducing heat discoloration on the board, AND lesening the radiant heat to the caps somewhat.

Actually I didn't use any insulator around the leads, maybe I should have!

There is some material on ebay I've saved from something I read "Φ1~40mm White 600°C HIGH TEMP Fiberglass Sleeving Wire Cable Insulating Tube"

Oh! I thought I was viewing your pics you had up here on AK of your rebuild of your sx-434..my bad! Anyway, it was a pic of the PS board with 2 resistor's up off the board with some sort of thermal sleeving around the leads and the body of the resistors. I'm sure I can find something that would work. Thanks man!
 
You're right -
I found a picture of my Power Supply board from that SX-434:

Those two resistors have insulation on them; it was original - I didn't touch those. Didn't really pay much attention but that's kinda weird actually, I wonder why it was necessary to protect the body of the resistor like that. Maybe it keeps the resistors insulated from other hot components in that spot?
 
I've read elsewhere on here, that it was a good ideal to do that because of the heat generated on that board.
 
Another thing about the SX-434, there are no vents on the top or sides of case! Only 15 WPC but still that's interesting. It's a really simple design (and they sound great!)
 
Those resistors ARE the HOT Spots on that P.S. Diodes don't need the sleeving as they don't heat up as much as the resistors. It's there more to protect the ceramic caps they're sandwiched between. But over decades of use the board will discolor to an extent, no matter what you do.
