Maybe stuff could be fixed and then proceeds split between the owner and fixer? Win-Win. If the owner wants to donate the piece after understanding what it could be worth fixed, well then everyone proceeds with knowledge and understanding. Karma, you know?

I have that exact relationship with the guy who supplies me with all my audio gear.
If I want it I pay him. If I don't want it, I refurbish it the best I can and we split 50/50 on the gear..
 
I don't have much of a problem with this ad. Obnoxious flippers (like the guy with the claimed handicapped daughter) care even less about the gear than this guy, I suspect. Those of us who know what the stuff is worth will not be giving it away, but if it actually saves something from the landfill or the recycler because some uninformed person learned it was worth saving, so much the better. Maybe I'm just being charitable for the new year, but I don't see the problem.
