Looking for recommendations for a pair of speakers

I recently got my ebay find Onkyo DX-702 CD player up and running, it's hooked up to my old Onkyo HT-R520 receiver. I'm using a couple of my old surround sound speakers for the time being, but I'm looking for some recommendations for a pair of speakers. All I want is 2 towers or something like that. I don't want speakers all over the room, they will just be dedicated to just music. Either new on the market, or older ones that I can keep an eye out on ebay or fb marketplace, etc... speaker recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I knew I forgot something. Room size is a 15'x30' rectangular room with 8' ceiling. Budget limit would be around 500 bucks or so for the pair I guess, but that is flexible.

This is the kind of information I'm looking for! Thanks for the recommendation. New or used, doesn't really matter. Mainly looking for info on a good pair of speakers.
 
If wanting something inexpensive that punches waaaaay over it's weight class the Infinity RS325 can usually be had for around $130.

If looking for something newer Jamo C103's might be available within budget, these originally listed for $1800. Don't let their size fool you, these have serious bass output.

If wanting something a bit larger but still on a budget the Klipsch KG3.2 will really rock, no subwoofer needed, can usually be found under $200.

when I auditioned the KG's for my brother-in-law he requested I turn off the two 12" subs in the room so he could here them without, the subs weren't on lol.

If you just want to walk into a store and buy some new ones for $500- the JBL Stage A170s do NOT suck. IMHO, they're about the best commonly-available $500 floor-standing speaker I know of right now. Good balance, well built, look decent.

IME AV speakers do not sound as good with music as those without that appellation. AV speakers are aimed at a different market than "audiophile" type speakers.

OTOH, "audiophile" speakers usually sound very good when used for AV.
 
AV on the box means the maker want's a buyer to buy it and use it for whatever reason will get the buyer to buy it.
 
Unfortunately KLH is just a name used for marketing anymore, it has no connection to the company that made the KLH speakers that get lots of respect around here. Basically any KLH with more than a two digit model number is not recommended.

Unfortunately speakers are a very personal choice. They all sound different, even the same speaker in another room of your house may sound different. Combine that with the concept that we all hear and listen differently, to different types of music powered by a variety of gear in environments that are different than yours. What I think sounds great, you might not and vice versa.

Taking it all into consideration it is difficult to say that speaker X is the one for you !!

What's a guy(or gal) to do........listen !

Listen to everything you can, preferably in your space with your gear. If purchasing new check the retailers return policy that way you can return something you don't like. If purchasing used don't overspend so you can resell something you don't like and not take a beating.

Some names that generally gather significant respect around here are Advent, ADS, Klipsch, Wharfedale, JBL, Dynaco, Magnepan and probably 100 others I can't think of right now.

Keep your eyes and ears open, be patient and remember, YOU are the ONLY one that has to like how YOUR system sounds.
