Looking to put my turntable back in service

I pulled two turntables out of storage this weekend and neither of them fared so well. One probably isn't worth messing with (Technics SL-BD20D) but the other one is nice and I want to do whatever it takes to get it back in service. I'd probably just assume take it to a pro if I can find one in the DFW area but I'd love to investigate a bit myself. Do we have any table experts here? If someone could point me in the right direction I'd love to learn something. I have very little technical knowledge about this stuff so if anyone tries to help please keep that in mind. I do have a decent volt meter and some contact cleaner and I do have some limited audio/electronics repair experience. Lots of experience in residential wiring and HVAC so no one has to warn me about electrocuting myself!

The table is a Luxman PD-121 with a Model 3009 tonearm. It was in perfect working order and sounded great when I boxed it up in 2007. So far, I have not tried to play it. There was a lot of static when I first turned it on so I turned my system off. At first it didn't spin but with a little help it did. After that, it would start and stop on its own. Both speeds seemed to work but the strobe light isn't working. Without the light I couldn't say if it was spinning at the right speed. The static seemed to be related to RCA jacks. What should I do? Any referrals to anyone in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area? I really don't care to ship it anywhere. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like dirty connections. Might need a new cartridge if the suspension elastomer has dried out.

Does the platter spin if you move it by hand?

Asking because I fixed a DD Luxman like that for a friend where the main (plastic) bearing broke and the platter collapsed onto the top plate. In that case it wouldn’t really spin.

Yes, the platter spins by hand.

Well I'm waiting for them to guide me along LOL! Actually, after I posted, I realized I didn't really make myself just overly clear. I'm really looking for information about getting that strobe light fixed and wondering if there are any "do's and don't" in regard to powering up a table that has been sitting for 14 years in a box. I just found some great information on my table over at the vinyl engine website that will guide me along pretty well.

Nice looking, vintage table. The SME 3009 arm connects to the interconnects, via a propriety jack/plug arrangement. BE sure they are clean and tight.
