Losing my mind over Dual tonearm wires.

The wires are copper. Aluminum is not flexible and not solderable. Up until they switched to low-capacitance wires, Dual arm wire was silicon jacketed. That stuff never dries out. The later stuff ages just as well. What I am convinced of is that smoke destroys these things

I am convinced! :smoke: :)

Was working on an second Dual, 521, and noticed it has a ground from the motor to the deck/chasis that the 1241 is missing. I saw an empty plug on the 1241 motor and that made me wonder if it was supposed to be grounded there. Now the 521 seems to confirm that.

What is really weird is how bad the RCAs on the 521 look even after being “cleaned” but that table with a Shure Premier seems to really put out a signal.

The ground to motor might be an attempt to eliminate the chance of building up a charge like a Van de Graff generator. Some of these later platters have a plastic stem and sit on a plastic bracket as well, so no chance of grounding away electrons.
