Lost Sansui AU-9500

I'm glad there was a resolution to this, though it was a bit costly. Is the (ir)responsible party going to be named now? Seems it would be useful for that information to be posted since the amp has been recovered, so that others can hopefully avoid dealing with and getting burned by the unscrupulous hoser who stole it and sold it.
 
This is a happy ending. I have been scanning Canada-wide Kijiji for Sansui a lot lately. I wonder if I was staring right at the ad and not realizing it. You never know how far you have to cast your net to recover stolen items.

We should have serial numbers of virtually everything we own from toasters to our vehicles. The list could come in handy.

The "irresponsible party" was mentioned a few posts ago.

I caught the ad as soon as it was posted. It had zero views on it when I saw it late Friday afternoon. I sent Mike messages and then eventually called him about it.
It was literally in our same backyard.
Posted right in St Catharines.
 
I did recontact the Police today regarding the stolen amp and am waiting on a return call. So the fellows name who took it is Peter Spridzans (Pete's Electronics) who lives at 518 Scott Street St. Catharines phone number 905-324-4100. If this goes any further and if he is charged I will post again. Thanks to all for return posts on this.
 
Thanks for the clarification on the details concerning the perpetrator. The way your earlier post read, I wasn't sure if Pete's Electronics was the place you took the amp to originally, or if they had been an intermediary who purchased and then resold it, not knowing it was stolen property. Would be nice if he got shut down and prosecuted, but that is probably a stretch given the circumstances and value of the item involved.

What gets me is the boldness (or stupidity) of posting it for sale publicly on a well known classifieds site assuming it would not be noticed by the rightful owner.

Might of been hoping it would of sold quickly before being noticed and gone...


My money is on the seller was in on the scam.
 
@Oerets, that angle had already occurred to me. I wonder if the seller from whom it was recovered was an accomplice and split the $400 with sneaky Pete.

I hate to go straight to that line of thought, but there are so many opportunistic scams now, and the ingenuity (or maybe determination is a better word) of these bums to cook up a scenario like that is almost unlimited. Difficult not to suspect this was something less than an arm's length transaction.
 
This “deal” does seem odd to me. Nothing surprises me, especially in today’s world, the trust and faith in people is skeptical.

Pretty good chance this was not a trial run, first attempt. There are others like yourself be a safe bet. Run a ad on a local platform like Craigslist informing your intent. I would leave out naming them, just the local PD office information.
