Luxman L110 speaker relay

Hi all,

The speaker relay on the Luxman L110 is acting up? Does anyone know what the proper replacement part is? Is the L100 speaker relay the same as that used in the L110?

Thank you!

Are you sure it is the relay? If the contacts were dirty or pitted, intermittent sound would happen but other than that, it just has a coil that when energized, opens and closes the contacts.

If the coil itself was bad, the relay would never energize and the contacts would not close but if there were another problem such as excessive DC at the outputs, the speaker protection circuit would be kicking in and not allowing the relay coil to energize and the contacts to close.

You will have to determine if you have a bad relay or the speaker protection is kicking in.

I'm not sure.

I have an intermittent right channel that I can get to work by turning the volume up. From my reading here that seems to point to the relay.

It's a bit of a problem child so I wouldn't be surprised if it's something else.

I haven't tried cleaning the relay.

Usually, this symptom does point to dirty contacts. If you are technically minded, you can attempt to remove the relay and clean the contacts otherwise a new one will most likely suffice.

Relay. Can you post a picture of it or the pin out? The part number on it?

@sx-70, Have you found the replacement relay? My L110 has exactly the same symptom, weak right channel and cured by turning up the volume. I opened it up and found the relay's part # (MAT4B-BH, 12VDC). But I am not able to figure out the proper replacement part.

No, I haven't found a replacement. I'm running a backup for now (that's why we have 2, 3 or 10 back up units sitting in the closet, right?).

If you've gotten that far you might look into cleaning the contacts on the speaker relay. I think I'm going to give that a try when I get around to it.

Thanks, @sx-70. Yes, I have two other Luxman pieces (R-1120a and L480) that function well so I am not in a hurry to address the issue with the L110. I only removed the wood case to see the part number. If I can't find the suitable part I will try as you suggested.

I've found an exact replacement for the 4PDT speaker relay in the L-100. It's an ITT-4B-BR.
I used to get relays from the usual DigiKey and Mouser, but they didn't seem to have 4PDT with a 12v coil voltage. Maybe I missed something but I found this replacement at an outfit called AmericanWestNH in on that auction site that we all know and luv.... good price too.
