LUXMAN M-02 Power Amplifier

It's in Victoria, on a local buy and sell site.If this is moved to D&S I'll give you the link, otherwise you can find it fairly easily I think.

Nm, I found it. A bit suspicious though. There is the actual picture of the preamp but no actual picture of the M-02. I contacted the seller.

D.E.K………..I do not know for sure because my memory tis clouded. Luxman did make really nice gear. This piece I think was towards the end of their Canadian sales. It is like Marantz equipment after Phillips took over, just not quite the same quality. Personally I would want this unit in my hands, you will know by the build and weight if it’s a good buy. Do not like being a nay say'er but just feel this way, hope I am all wet.

Hey, Conception Bay South;

Pull the trigger on that Lux or live with the regret forever. Some farmers don't like getting kicked in the crops when you're splitting leaves over $25. It's a nice piece. The duo beta circuit amps always sounded nice to me, IMHFO. (In my humble farmer's opinion) He'd proly get the full 3 cabbages for it if he decided to post on the "other" Bay..

Good luck, godspeed.

Hello,
I just picked one up local in Mass. Sounds better than I thought it would. Had an Adcom 555 and a Yamaha mx-1. Both might be history real soon.

Congratulations and welcome to AK. I saw the same ad. Unfortunately I do not share the same high opinion of "duo-beta" Luxman as many here do. The items made while Alpine was owner I steer well clear of. When it breaks, and it will, we have a local member who can do a quality repair.

Best,

Todd and DEK,

The nice thing about this place is that lots of people with experience in certain kinds of gear may chime in with input based on personal hands-on experience gleaned over the years.
As for instilling a fear in your purchase that it will break down or has to break down, I don't agree with that kind of negative fatalistic approach and I believe it holds no constructive benefit to those just buying or thinking about buying the gear. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, not one filled with dread or regret.
Don't sell it, burn it or throw it out. It's a nice piece. And for what it's worth, I sold this in the 80's in a reputable well established hi-fi shop in my city and my own personal experience was it sounded great and ran circles around most of the other gear that sat on the shelves next to it. I can also honestly say from my own personal experience that this Lux was never trouble prone when new, while many other well known brands kept comming back for service. Perhaps they developed trouble as they aged, much later, but I don't have any first hand experience with that.

Again, IMHO.

Enjoy your Luxman gear.

Luxman M02 Amp

If your talking Canadian dollars the asking price of $300 is very reasonable if it's local pickup and the amp performs well. The early silver Luxman gear was highly regarded back in the 1970s and was refered to as the Japanese MAC for sound/build quality. If you can get it for less great but I wouldn't be haggling over $25 for that amp. Also Luxman mfg some very expensive tube amps/preamps that surpassed anything from the other mass market Japanese companies. Starting in the early 1980s their equipment went the way of the cheap black plastic like all the others.

I love this place too. I had 2 M-02 amps both broke. My personal experiences differ from yours and are no less valid.

I still own 3 R-117's, (one broken), an R-115 an R-113 and an R-1120A reciever. Both R-117's have required service the third R-117 is unrepairable according to the AK member who spent a long time trying to fix it. I have owned the R-1120A since 1980 and it has yet to give a problem less an occasional shot of de-oxit on noisy controls.

Spin the wheel of chance and hope you get lucky. If your M-02 purchase works and stays working that's a bonus. No more of them for me. :nono:

"More gloom and doom" from someone else who's "been there and done that" :D

Best,

I decided not to get it. I have too much gear and running out of space. I just have the urge to buy every vintage stereo gear I see. I have to stop at some point. Cheers...
