Luxman R-114 n Adcom GFA 545

Super Member
Have a spare Adcom GFA 545 100wpc, will it make any difference using it with R-114 preamp comparing just running purely R-114? I assume I should be able to do so. Thanks.

The 114 is rated at 50 watts vs your adcom 100 Watter. Depending on your speakers you will notice a difference in headroom

It looks like that unit has pre-outs, so you have nothing to lose but a pair of interconnects to try it.

How much difference it will make probably depends on how power hungry your speakers are.

Yes, the R-114 does have the pre-out and I assume it is fine for me to connect it to GFA 545. I will be running to a fairly new pair of Jamo S809 to see difference comparing just by R-114 itself. I also have an old pair of Polk Jr5+ (I think) and a pair of Magneplanar MG IIIa. I was advised not to connect these low watts receivers to it so I can not test the difference. But might to run the R-114/GFA545 combo later and I assume that should be fine.

The Luxman will play the MG-IIIa speakers no problem. Issue is it will not play loud. I run mine with Luxman amps, 50watt tubes among other amps.

Be intersting what you find out as you try the receiver with a pair of speakers and then switch to using the pre-outs and the amp. You've got three sets of speakers to try that with to see how they handle those speakers. Looking forward to seeing what you have to say about the sound quality of the receiver vs. the amp on these three sets.

The R-114 originally came with a remote, if you like the synergy and don't have the remote I would suggest tracking it down if not I've read that Logitech remotes can be programmed with Luxman remote codes.

I also have an old pair of Polk Jr5+ (I think)

Here's hoping you do they are great little speakers and I've paired them in the past with some of the Luxman gear I've had and still have.

@Blue Shadow, that will be a lot of moving thing n swapping cables around. Seems fun. Will report back for sure.
Yes, the R-114 did come with the original remote which surprises me when I open the box. I did not know at the time of winning it on eBay. Feel like getting a good deal. I do like the r-114 a lot. Only bad thing is it smells. Some kind of fruity air refresher smell when I run it. Not a bad smell but just strange. Or somthing is leaking? BTW, my Denon dra 755 is really a liquid cooled receiver. How fancy.
