Luxman R-115 vs R-114

so my choice is between luxman R-115 and R-114

anyone who heard both and could comment on how close do they sound from each other. from what I understand, r-114 was sold in 1990 while r-115 was from the 87/88 era....

The R-115 is a true two channel receiver. The R-114 has a center channel. Heard R-117 and R-114. I would go for the R-115.

New to this forum but happy to be here. Anyway, I am a prod owner of a Luxman R-114. Every time I consider selling it for an integrated amp, I can't get myself to do it. Anyway, the Luxman R-114 is a true 2 channel unit. It does not have a center channel. This has been my go to, music only, source for years.....

Do a Google image search of the internals between the two, and let me know which one you'd rather have. If it were me: R-115 all the way. No doubt in my mind.

Where do you get that the 114 has a center channel? Mine doesn't.

I just got a r114 2 weeks ago and it is apart - and working - on the bench right now. no center channel that I can find...

For posterity: in the event an R114 has fm music, tuning indicator, but no display, check out the 6 wire ribbon from the transformer board to the power supply board, the little metal things in there lose spring and grip and if pin 1 goes, the 5vdc supply goes down. You have to monkey with the 'springs' to re-tension them

Also strangely i have one with a processor loop and one that does not. Im guessing they may have added the processor loop in later years?

Sound wise I'm going to say, late to the party that the two amps probably sound quite similar to each other except for the fact that more power may sound better or drive difficult speakers easier. I would say my r-114 sounds neutral with a bit of bass bloom but not much. Quite musical and satisfying although most would always opt for the 115 for the same money.
These amps although apparently made by alpine have a good track record and seem to hold up well over time. A bit of an upper level company at least was and made in Japan is usually a good sign. Nichicon caps and decent weight. Looks pretty easy to repair and upgrade which is a bonus. A good better than average workhorse reminiscent of some of the better Denons I've seen. Thumbs up.

@niles300z Confirmed, I have one with the processor loop as well. If you do not have the jumpers installed you have NO audio. I ended up hardwiring it internally. Who is going to use a Pro Logic signal process these days?
