M&K find...gonna need some help with these

Amazing!! I was just looking for info on these to post in another thread (couldn't remember the model #) and a google search revealed this recent thread. I had a pair of these about 12 years ago, and never found anyone else who had seen/owned a pair until now. One grille frame was broken on the pair I found, had a coworker's husband rebuild it for me, and my sub amps blew out a little while later but the drivers seemed to work passively just fine so I just listened to them that way until I sold them. Wish I still had my set--very rare!!

That's cool...you're the first person I've heard that has owned these. I'm so damn curious how they sound, what did you think of them? :scratch2: I'd love to hear your opinion.

I should have my pair singing in a couple of weeks, can't wait.

Honestly I liked them just fine, even running the subs passively- but it has been so long ago I am not sure I can remember any intricate details about how they sounded. I remember INCREDIBLY good midbass-midrange, the highs didn't quite soar to me (probably just a result of where I had to place them in my apartment) but were more than acceptable, especially with the switchable db level on the back. I never really messed around with proper placement when I had them as my living space area was fairly limited. I sold them after finding a pair of Paradigm Studio 60s at the local pawn shop, but otherwise I probably would have hung on to them for a good while.

thread revival

Good news, everyone!

I finally ordered the parts and rebuilt the Volkswoofer plate amps, power supplies and re-foamed the woofers. They're alive!

I got the parts Tuesday and started the work right away. They both got new Elna Silmic II electrolytics, Nichicon Gold Tune power supply caps, Dale/Vishay 1% and 2% precision resistors throughout, Bournes trimmer pots, CTS gain pots, Ultra-Fast diodes, op-amps, gold RCA's and power cables.

I'll post some pics of the build and stuff later on, I just wanted to revive this old thread real quick. Can't wait to get them hooked up for real.

EDIT: Here's a link to the restoration thread on these - http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=626741
