M&K sub/sats, opinions?

Sunbeam Alpine? Always liked the 64 Tiger with the 260. Owned a few Ford Falcons, my Sprint had the 260.

The sats are great, no issues there. Problem is the sub, probably voice coil issue. To refresh, I grabbed the set from my e-waste guy. I got home and realized the plate amp fuse hold was missing. Speakers are usually tossed solely on rotted foam so without powering up I just went ahead with refoaming the Volkswoofer. The final glue down of woofer was done with a test tone. Got the fuse holder and fired up the sub with some audio to test and discovered the noise and posted on AK. Thinking the plate amp was the source, I did some more checking. I used a test tone and found if one of the voice coils wasn't connected the noise was gone.

This was weeks ago so I'm not clear on what my testing fully involved. I assume I switched the VC inputs and found the fault was in the coil and not the amp.

If interest is out there, I can pull the sub out and do some more messing around.

Thanks for the reply, see above post. I do want to hear what the M&K can offer. Lots of possitves from the earlier comments.

Awoke with an aha moment. Duh, my test of the Volkswoofer only used the M&K plate amp and should've included another amp to compare against.

-New amp and both voice coils seem to be distortion free.

I vaguely remember reading the plate amp isn't worth messing with.

Any AK thoughts to the contrary?
