M&K subwoofer

I found a vintage M&K Volkswoofer is a perfect match for my MG IIb maggies!
(The BIG box behind that is one of my "L200" 3 way JBLs)

Love the sound, love the walnut veneer, and the beautiful rounded edges where the sides meet the top.

hjames, I have that sub as well. It has a black poly woofer. And a trapezoidal cab which is narrower at top and wider on bottom.

One time i had a small pair of yamaha NS4 playing and it was hooked up to the sub. And some one unfamiliar with the system heard it. He didnt know that the sub was playing and seemed surprised. Only way to tell it was even playing is when bass frequencys are playing.

Heck it even mates well with the pair of tannoy mallorcans.

hjames and budgetaudio6: Seems that the M&K Volkswoofer is alive and well in quite a few systems, which is great. It predates any literature that I've been able to dig up on M&K ( same with the MX-70, only the "updated" 70b is mentioned in any of the old web archives).

I like the wedge shape of the volkswoofer, reminds me of the Old KRK K-rok monitors. which probably wouldn't be a bad sub for those either.

m&k vx-7

my m&k vx-7 bass control on the back cuts out at the minimum position does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it

my dads mate has his m&k dual 12 subwoofer with his klipsch la scalas denon 11.2 anniversary edition amplifier and his reference line surrounds. i have to say, the subwoofer is AMAZING. we were watching polar express, the bass was amazingly loud andd deep. and you felt it from like 10 metres away. i was outside the loungeroom, he played a song with some bass and i just watched the windows move like a subwoofer cone would

Can someone tell me the differences, or specs on the following M&K subs:

-xv four

-Volkswoofer

VB one

VB two

K MK12

Which would be the best for 20% HT and 80 % music ??

Thanks

iirc some one stated the volkswoofer will go down to 18 hz. I think it may have been in one of the threads i started. ill see if i can dig it up soon. almost beer thirty and the store is beckoning.

barredowl, no it didnt! one day you will have the itch again...just to see what is out there and a few pieces will peak your interest. in the span of 2 years...a few pieces. Whether you buy is your choice. i havent really bought any myself. for my main system.

I hope you can find that link. Is that true that it can go down to 18 hz ? Which one. I heard there were a few diffrent Volkswoofer' I, II, & III ????

I once posted specs for an M&K Volkswoofer A, quoting a 1981 brochure that claimed 18Hz to 100Hz, + or - 3dB.

The brochure also featured the slightly lower powered Volkswoofer III. I believe it claimed the III to be flat down to either 20 or 22 Hz (my memory's not exact and the brochure is packed away in the abyss of a recent move).

thts what i waas refereing to. Ive got two different iterations of the volkswoofer. The exct specs i have not come across yet. as the pic shows a different sub than mine.

on second look that first photo looks exactly like the plate amp on my second volkswoofer.

I did a frequency sweep with the Audacity software and was surprised the M & K vx-7s has useable response down to 20 hz. Probably down 10 db or so but still impressive for a 7 inch sub, and very musical doing so.

Actually not a lot of subs go that low nor is the a ton of music with much info down there.

Mx 1000

I just picked up one of these from a friend of mine. I never listened to it at his place because it was not hooked up. I couldn't find much info on it here. This one is black. How does this sub rank in the general sub category?

It looks like the push/pull design, but the Orion Blue Book says it's "acoustic suspension." The book has been wrong before.

Other subs I already have are; Velodyne ULD 15, Velodyne F-1500 (x2), Klipsch SW-10 (x2) and a Dayton Titanic III 10" on my PC.

I have not hooked this up yet...don't know where to use it yet!

I have a pair of MX-70 subs that I have used with Tetra 406 speakers and they sounded great. I also used them with Newform Research R630 speakers and they worked well with those as well. The bass is well controlled and clean but they only go down to around 27 hz. I am planning on trying them with a Marchand XM9 electronic crossover and my Acoustat 2+2 speakers cut off at 100 hz. Hopefully they will be fast enough to keep up with the panels. I have an Axiom EP500 sub that I will also use from the second output of my preamp set at 40 hz and is flat to 18 hz.

Should be an interesting experiment this Christmas with 3 subs and the panels.

I am running Maggie MMGs in the "stereo room" that's only about 11' x 13'. I have not gotten the two F-1500s to blend well yet and am working on room treatments before I try anything else.
