Mac Photos - CES 2008 (Private D&M Showcase: Mandalay Bay)

Now, before I even have time to upload the photos onto my own website, I bring to you a no-bullshit, no industry marketing bias, layman version of the McIntosh CES report :tresbon:


I know everyone is waiting for a photo of the mysterious MC2301 so here it is, and you no longer have to guess, the MC2301 is happening !

Now, lets start from the beginning.............

In 2007, McIntosh had the biggest and nicest room at the main CES Venetian building, but this year they only have 1/3 of a hotel room, a much more modest presentation. While I was pondering upon the motives for such a move, I bumped into Chuck Hinton.

It turns out McIntosh is showcased together with the D&M Group at the Mandalay Bay this year. The room was not accessible to the public. It was "BY INVITATION ONLY". Judging by the size of the crowd, very few people got in. It took me nearly 45 mins to get from the CES building to Mandalay, and when I arrived the "nice lady" at the front shouted at me to STOP, "This is BY INVITATION ONLY !". Apparently my CES Press badge was no good here.

Luckily, Ron-C came to the rescue ! He spotted me from afar and got me in...............

When I said it was "By Invitation Only" and the crowd was small, I really meant what I said. This actually made it easier for me to take photos as I don't have to wait for people to move along.

The bad thing this year is I left my tripod on the plane so not all the photos turned out too nice. Below is a full view of the Mac showcase:

Below: Display No. 1, the 2301 prototype. It will not be ready until May (earliest), and possibly even later. We've got Rev. Charlie standing behind the display case.

I was gonna bribe Ron-C to let me run off with this through the back door, , but it turns out the 2301 on display was a prototype only, there is no printings on the back of the unit. When it is ready to hit the market, the 2301 will be a 2 box solution, ie a Monoblock. It will not be multiple chassis like the MC2KW. Just 2 box, not 4. The 2301 will be 300W per channel, fully balanced.

Without my tripod, I literally have to take over 150 photos in order bring you 20 good ones. 85% of them are simply no good. By the end of this I was like......

At just at the right time, Ron invited me to the home theatre demostration room for a 20 min. DEMO.

I noticed something funny on the screen, there was a line which says:

"BURMESTER, ART FOR THE EAR ???" I'm not sure if that was the title of the DVD, or did they mean "Yeah right Burmester, LISTEN TO THIS !".

The most interesting part of the demo was when Ron showed a clip of the Blade Runner. The VP1000 video processor has the ability to turn the quality of a 30 year old movie into razor sharp images. The unit has over 3500 individual components, and a multilayer board running at over 300 mhz. They had MC501s powering the new XRT1K speaker, and the new center channel.

One thing I don't get...if the MC2301 is a monoblock...shouldn't it just be a MC301 ?

That's ok.. normally you need to take 10 pics to get 1 really good shot.
You're doing well with 7.5 pics to 1.

Not to take anything away from the VP1000 (I own one) that is the new DVD release "Blade Runner the Final Cut"

It's Video is absolutely stunning. I should know, I bought every DVD version of this movie ever released. :drool:
