Maggie Question

DrMux

Welcome to the Gig.
I have an EL84 model Maggie amp and a 6V6 model Maggie amp. Is there any preference as to which to use Bi Amped to woofers and tweeters?

These are both full range push-pull amps I take it? the EL84 should have more power output, so I'd expect it to work out slightly better for the woofer. Honestly I'd be looking for a single ended amp for the highs. The factory magnavox configuration used a push-pull 6v6 for highs with 6 6v6 push-pull-parallel tubes for lows. The four tube low side had a single 6v6 for highs, and it was easy to get the HF amp gain high enough that it was too strong. You can certainly bi-amp with a pair of push-pull amps but you'll need some way to control the gain on the high frequency amp in order to balance things out. I suspect you'll find the gain cut back pretty far on the treble amp.
