Hi has anyone else noticed a Magnavox 185/175 with two different output transformers from the factory ?

My 185AA has matching # OPT's,,,
It has 2 different pairs of output tubes,,,(CBS-Hytron & Sylvania,,, both dated 5839, and stamped Magnaxox),,, Guess they used different vendors for parts....

Regards,
John

The one on the right has about 20% less laminations than the the one on the left . Both are factory original notice the rivets

wow, thats really obvious too. Wonder if someone grabbed one out of the wrong bin and it just never got noticed. I'm sure thats not the first time a wrong part was installed at the factory. I know I've found wrong parts and stuff that wasn't soldered in before. Usually its been resistors with the multiplier incorrect. Reds and oranges can look close if you're not looking close.

That's a very early 185. Wonder if there was a production change early on- in the lamination stack? I think the thicker one is like what's used in the later models...

Regards,
Gordon.

Freaky, you may have the last one of those skinny TXs ever used. This is part of the fun of messing with old stuff, you find all sorts of "human" aspects in the manufacturing. Robots don't typically make mistakes, they just build all crap all the time. Send me some dimensions on both if you can.:scratch2:
