Magnavox 6V6 monoblocks

there's are gonna be great once their gone through. and speaking of magnavox 6V6 monoblocks . . . .

hey targeteye - one of my moggies came with a couple sales brochure for 1960 & (I think) 1959 . .I'll have to scan them so you can see what the front looks like. I have the precusor (a 1958 model) with two big 150XX amp chassis (6V6 PPP for the woofer, 6V6 SE for the tweet).

check 'em out :D *almost* done recapping them (I mean - they're languishing in the garage :stupid:) wanna try 'em with the new 15 inch Karlsons :scratch2:

The 6an8 is part of the ceramic phono stage, I find it strange that you only have 1 12ax7. Is there a full pre amp on this model, or just tone controls on a board? I'm wondering if somebody mixed up the tubes, and the 6an8 belongs "upstairs" in the pre.

The amp in the command unit was wired to push the turntable also. Only tone controls on the preamp and a TT balance pot which was mounted inside, next to the amp. The 6an8 is the TT driver tube, I guess. I am a newbie at this, btw.
 
Is there a schematic somewhere? Something sounds odd.:scratch2: As said before though, you could allways just wire them to be identical to the AX7 one while recapping. Are the TXs the same?
 
Any way you can post them? I think you would be more concerned with the output TXs being the same. Do they have any numbers on them?

Cool! I'd love to see it. Those amp's you have look really impressive. I"m wondering if the Maggie amps wouldn't sound best in a Maggie console :).

Cheap but not too shabby, sound wise! I've done the basics needed to make mine a stand alone unit, it's back on the bench for a complete going over and re-cap. I had it hooked up in my living room for the last few days, driving a pair of Time Windows of all things. While the Magie ran out of steam before the Time Windows were done looking for watts, at levels it could handle it sounded great!

I always looked at these amps as a novelty, something to play with, but with the correct speakers I could probably live with one for a long time! I'm looking forward to hearing it hooked up to those "horned" AKAI's I have, some may remember the thread on those.

Magnavox did voice their stuff to work as a 'system' . . . eventually I want mine to run the factory speakers 'out of the box'. Maybe the 15's in my new-to-me Karlson cabinets, and the factory Jensen or EV horns plopped on top.

I've scanned the whole thing in pieces (both sides) and when I have some time, I'll try to 'reassamble' on the computer. kinda liek a big jigsaw puzzle :yes:

Some of the Magnavox amps had built-in EQ, for the speakers!

I run into that frequently, with the 86xx single-ended EL84 amps. Takes a rewire of the feedback circuit to get rid of the contour... sounds MUCH better.

Otherwise, the Magnavox amps seem to be pretty straight-forward... no "funny business" anywhere, as far as EQ or response-shaping, IME...

Thanks much. Not a bad looking console. I'd have to admit those electronics would look better setting out exposed. Such sacrilege!

Me too! There was church rummage sale with a a similar Telefunken console pumping out the local cool jazz station and sounding sweet! They only wanted $50 bucks for it but I passed and have been kicking myself daily. The tubes probably would have been worth more than $50! Worse, I knew what it was but the bug hadn't really bit. Oh well, live and learn.
