Magnavox 9304-10 volume control

Hi all,
I have read some of the many, many threads on the Magnavox 9300 series of amplifiers but have not seen a concise answer to a question I have: I would like to install a simple volume control on the amp so I can run it without a separate preamp; would like to run a source directly into the amp.
I have seen lots of different answers on how to go about this, but there's a lot of conflicting info. So, what would those of you who have done this mod recommend, for a simple VC? A simple 100K stereo audio pot tied into the signal side of the amp's inputs? And if that (or another solution) is the case, does anyone have a schematic and/or pix showing this mod specifically? Thanks!

One other question: My 9304-10 amplifier does not have the balance control; instead its tied in with a 750 ohm balance pot on the preamp section via molex. I know many people recommend using a few 390-ohm resistors to take the place of the balance pot. Any particular reason why just purchasing a 750 ohm linear pot and installing it on the amp would not be preferable?
