Greeting forum members! I'm not much of a tech guy at all and I'm kind of lost trouble shooting so apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I figured I would give this forum a shot.

I'm trying to convert a sizeable collection (about 200 or so) of VHS tapes and recently borrowed a friend's old Magnavox box to convert them. The model of the box is CMWR 10D6. The box has just a DVD slot, no slot for the tape itself, you need a VCR.

My first attempt to convert was unsuccessful. I put a video tape in a VCR put a DVD in the Magnovax, and hit the power and record buttons on the Magnavox box. But the DVD was blank when I took it out. I had the red/yellow/white audio cables plugged into the Audio Out slot in the VCR and in the Audio In on the Magnavox.

Any tips on what I should do? Thanks for any help and again apologies if this is in the wrong place!

Are These home videos or pre-recorded ones. If these are home videos I who suggest sending them to a commercial outfit that does this. They have the proper equipment to do the transcription. plus you can pick the storage media. Archival grade DVD, Flash drives etc. Such tapes are to precious to loose. If they are comercial recorded movies and such I would not even bother. you can purchase DVD for most of this stuff. With the copy guard crap that was added to these tapes it is just not worth the hassle.

I faithfully recorded on video tape every episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. I wound up with a couple of foot lockers full of video tapes. Now I can watch them in HD and 5.1 on Netflix. The tapes all got recycked.

It's all pre-recorded stuff, some of that I haven't been able to find online or DVD. Basically I know there's SOME stuff I want converted, so my philosophy is that if I need some of it converted I might as well just burn through all of it since I have unused DVDs anyway and then can save space by replacing the tapes with DVDs.

I just don't know how to physically do it because I don't have a manual.
 
I have not attempted this in years. Go to Youtube there are numerous tutorials on how to do it I am so spoiled by digital transfer I just don't think analog much anymore.
 
Yeah I tried that but I can't seem to find one for this specific make/model. I figured I might run into that issue where the machine is so old- it might have come out before youtube existed (same year in 2006) and certainly before the usually reliable youtube tutorials were a commonplace thing.
