Hope someone grabs these. Listened to them extensively at my dealer's back when they were new. Need lots of room and power.

Yeah, Cactus, didn't even think about the cost of a full refurb. Wonder what the cost on that would be?

A factory refurb would be very expensive unless you had the patience & expertice to do it yourself. Magnepan is located in Minnesota. Shipping to them would be very expensive. These speakers weigh a ton, although they don't look like it.

I picked up a pair of 1-D's at a GW for $75. They needed refurb but were in excellent condition cosmetically. I gave them to a friend.

Here's what they looked like . . .

These IVs might be a bit high but it is a good opening offering. If they have not been redone, maybe they don't need it yet. If they have and it was recent the price is only a bit high. Redoing a pair of IIIas was about 800 a few years ago and these have 4 woofer panels vs the two of the IIIa. So the price would probably be about twice as much. A recent rebuild by Magnepan would make these good for another 10-15 years.

If they have not been done, one would need to audition them and determine if work is needed in order to negotiate a good price. But if the all the drivers work and there is only some banana peel on the woofers, that is an easy fix and worth a discount but not a complete bypass of these speakers.

But have power if you want to enjoy these at any volume levels.
