Marantz 1060 Power Switch questions

Hey all,

Picked up a 1060 that was DOA, but it was cosmetically so nice, I couldn't pass it up. I got it going and have re-capped the tone, power supply and phono boards and it sounds great. Am going to do the main/coupling and the power amp soon. My question, someone changed the power switch with one that looks to be pulled from another brand. It does not have a snubber cap on it and when you power on you get a pretty good pop. This pop happens even if I turn it on and then press the speaker button. Is this because of the incorrect power switch, or something else? I would like to put the correct switch back in, but there are none currently available for the 1060, is there another model that uses the same switch??? Would appreciate any help.

The blue power switch that is $2.50 from Digikey and is widely resold is a good replacement. You can modify the original aluminum button to fit the 3mm shaft or get one of the NOS buttons that fit perfectly.

My work day starts with the 'pop' of my shop 1060 powering on. This sound is normal. It is not related to the power switch or a surge capacitor across the power switch. The 1060 does not have a protection relay so there is no delay when the amps start up and it goes straight to the speakers.

My 1060 has higher capacitance filter and coupling caps that the originals which makes it give that much louder a thump.

Thanks for your help, I have 4 1060's now and this one was the loudest pop I have had, so I thought it must be something more. Turns out I had a replacement power switch that fit the hole the previous owner had drilled for their switch. The switch they installed did not line up properly and had a plastic piece that hit on the frame when you turned it on, hence I received it without a button on the power switch. Well, I lined up my switch, put the faceplate back and it moved freely, so I soldered it in. Amazingly, I have no pop, or noise when it turns on, with or without the headphone jack filled, go figure. I am glad I was able to bring this one back as it was so cosmetically nice. Thank you for all your help as always. Rich

I swear sometimes I can agonize over a problem for days and within hours of finally posting the problem on AK, with or without answers from other members, I find a solution. It’s as if my brain doesn’t kick into super problem solving mode until I put the issue out there.

Glad you fixed it. :)

Can someone please link the switch on Digikey or Mouser that can be a replacement for the Marantz 1060 power switch? Thank you

I've restored two 1060's using Leestereo's BOM. It has some cap values that are higher, etc. I didn't hear a pop in either amp. They both still have the original power switch too. I gave one to my son and kept the other.
With the larger filter, coupling and a couple other caps in the power supply, it will keep playing for some time after shut off though. I just turn the volume down.

I purchased my switch from this seller. He has them with the new correct sized button, or without.

Thank you. Unfortunately,he does not ship to India where I am located. I will have to find another way to obtain this. Appreciate your help.
