Marantz 2215B Power Supply Transistor Subs

Hi all, I am currently restoring a Marantz 2215b as my first restoration. I am working on the power amp and I am having trouble sourcing a suitable replacement transistor for H709 and H710. The originals were 2SA684 which folks have said to substitute with KSA1220AY. However KSA1220AY is out of stock everywhere except from China on Ebay, which I'd rather stay away from. Does anyone know an available substitution?

Additionally, the KSA1220AY is a PNP, I have successfully sourced the complimentary NPN transistors (KSC2690AYS) for H707/708. If I were to find a suitable replacement for the 1220's would I also need to switch up 2690's to the new transistors complimentary part number for the NPN?

Thank you for any help you can offer, I'm very new and I definitely need it!Screenshot 2024-03-01 171858.png

I have the TTA and complimentery TTC stocked up for when I run out, but haven't used these yet. A lot of folks have with no problems. The full data sheet is on Mouser to compare

Thank you for the reply! I'm taking a look around, so far those look like they are on backorder everywhere too☹️

Hi @J85t welcome to AK.
Glad you found a source for those transistors!

I don't know if it be of any help, but I restored a 2215B 2 years ago and think it came out really well. In fact it's been my main amp ever since. I use headphones a lot and FM, and streaming, and I think it sounds outstanding.

I had one issue after replacing transistors on the P700 amp board. There was oscillation and another forum member helped me solve it.

My issue is documented here:

Just thought I'd share that and good luck. Keep posting!

@fromnowon Wild... I just stumbled accross your thread yesterday and read the whole thing. Lots of good info in there! I plan on upping the capacitance at C713/714 if I get any distortion due to swapping out the original 2SA684 transistors. That's some really good info as AH-fix it on YouTube had the same issue and to fix it he ended up reverting back to the original 2SA684 transistors. Thanks for looking out!

So I got some parts in, I have the TTA004B to replace PNP transistors H709/710 and the KSC2690AY to replace NPN transistors H703/704/707/708 (The complimentary to these would be TTC004B, but they are on backorder till April.) Would it be ok to go ahead and replace all the transistors above with what I have on hand? Or should I wait till the TTC004B's arrive so that the complimentary PNP and NPN's are similar part number/specs? Does it even matter that much? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

I am wondering about this too: can you use TTA004B with KSC2690AY, or do you need to use TTC004B?

Amp is a Sansui AU-999, F-1159 board replacing 8002-1, 9002-1.

Thx

Well I just found some TTA004B & TTC004B transistors I'd forgotten I ordered, so all is good. I'll use them together.
