Phono Board (P400)

100uf 50V

Sorry, I am a phono only guy so no AM/FM board stuff here ☹

Cap Suggestions:

Main Filter Caps: Nichicon KG Gold Tune 10,000uf 50V
35mm so will fit right in clamp, and has solder lugs so no mods needed. (Thanks to Sir.Byrd for this rec.)

Power Supply: Nichicon KZ then FG

Signal Path: Elna Silmic II
If you can not find a value in any of the above move to Panasonic FC/FM.

I'd step the 10 and 16V caps up to 25V just because I can. I think I used all Panasonic FC in the 2220B that I recapped. You can do Silmic II if you don't mind the extra expense in a lower end unit.

Don't recap the tuner sections unless you have the skills to align a tuner.

Those Gold Tunes are nice filters, you could use Panasonic TS-HA if you want to trim costs a little.

Yes me too, in the Power Supply the 470uf 16V, and the 1000uf 10V are both getting Nichicon KZ 25V caps. The 220uf 10V on the Main amp board is also getting a bump.

I am just getting started here, but on those Nichicon KG Gold Tune caps, did you order the 'snap-in' ? Can you tell me if this was successful for you?

Also, does anyone know what differences for this cap list might be for the 2220 - non-B variety?

For the 2220B the Main Filter caps are 35MM diameter. They are 6800UF 35V. Nichicon KG.

These below from Mouser are a direct fit.

They are snap in I soldered a terminal ring on one end for the wires. Let me know if you need pictures of this.
 
^ That's the way to install snap in filters. Looks really finished, much better than the stock setup.
 
Thanks for the pics Pat, I went and ordered 2 8200uf 50v filters for my 2220B, I thought I saw earlier that the higher capacitance was acceptable. Am I ok with that assumption?

You'll be OK with 8200uF. The original filters had a tolerance of -20/+50%, so you're within that range.
 
Thank you for posting a list of the caps required. I just picked up a 2220B and I'd like to restore her to her factory glory. I was experiencing some weirdness and from the 2220B and everything I've read on AK the first advice is to RE-CAP.

I'm a bit of a novice, so it's nice to know what parts you need before getting started.

I ordered all Elna and Nichicon caps at Parts Connexion and I can't wait to get started.

I did come across an issue with the cap listing when working on the Tone Board.

CE23 & CE24 are non polar caps, I spent 20 minutes examining them trying to figure out which side was negative.

Then I came across the Marantz Service manual correction thread http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=375907

2220B Cap listing:
Service manual lists CE21 & CE22 as 33 uF/50v. Should be 3.3 uf/50v.
CE23 & CE24 listed as standard 1.0 uF/50V. Use non polar caps here.
C709 and C710 should be 47uf 50V, not the listed 500V.

I believe that the capacitor listing for the tone board should be...

Tone/Pre Board (PE1)
3.3uf 50V x2
1uf 50V x2 Polarized
1uf 50V x2 Bi Polar (for CE23 & CE24)
4.7uf 25V x2
10uf 35V x2
220uf 35V
Total of 11 caps

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I know this thread is a few years old, but thanks for posting. I'm currently working on recapping a 2220B for a friend of mine. I'll probably go ahead a replace the tuner caps too -- he's getting it realigned.
I figure somewhere around $150 for tuner alighnment.

Patfont has a famous thread where he tested several different kinds of caps in the same unit and analyzed the sound after each group. His bottom line was that Elna Silmic II's gave the sound that his ears appreciated the most.

Thanks, Do you happen to know the lead spacing off hand of the 22uf. Choice between 2mm and 2.5mm I'm at work I'd like to get a list going.

ALSO, I can't find 47uf 16v but the service manual says +100% -10%

Could I go for 47uf 25v. Assuming I could. Its within range with a tolerance of +/- 20%
