Marantz 2220B: Volume knob very hard to turn

Hi everyone !

Long time lurker, first post here.

So, I have had this 2220B for some weeks now and I cleaned every pot with some contact cleaner (not Deoxit as they are not widely available here in Canada, I bought a generic one at The Source).

However, I noticed yesterday that the volume pot was very hard to rotate, even to a point that i would not turn at all (completely stuck). I tried cleaning it again with the contact cleaner while rotating it with some pliers and it worked fine after. But today, when I woke up, I noticed the same thing. It's really hard to turn again, it's like if something has dried inside the pot or I don't know.

I tried spraying some jig-a-loo too, but same thing.

Is there any kind of lubricant I could try ? Maybe it's a chemical reaction between my cleaner and jig-a-loo that caused some sort of glue ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

You could try this....

This is a procedure I used to fix some stuck and impossible to find pots on an old Realistic STA-180...

Fixing a Stuck Pot

I would see if you can find a new pot first and see if anyone chimes in with a suggestion before you try it.

It did work great for me...

Thats a good idea txturbo:yes: The hole in the aluminum will hold a bit of oil as its turned.

I have had luck using brake caliper grease in a little plastic bag. I put it over the switch and seal it then squeeze the bag while turning it. Not too much though.

The fact you did get it to turn, then after sitting, it stuck again, makes me think its not "in" the switch. Be careful not to break a "half" splined end off.

Thank you guys for your answers !

Finally, I managed to make it rotate again by letting some 3 in 1 oil in between the shaft and the pot case.
I sat the receiver facing upward for the whole night with some drops of 3 in 1 oil in the front of the pot (in the tiny crack between the shaft and pot case). That way it had the time to go in.

This morning, when I woke up, it was working fine ! I don't know how long it will last but it works for now.

I am so happy, I though I would have to replace to volume pot in order to make the receiver work again. Everything is good now !
