Thats why you have to make a call, and Start a conversation with the guy. Vet him out.and Best case, go in person to pick it up.
 
Images seem to be original. Couldn't find a match, neither with Google reverse image search or by searching for marantz 2245 black. I think it's probably legit.
 
It’s the scam artist Dave. Sorry to break the news. Listings been on there for months and when you set up a time and it’s the usual 7 pm and then never gets back to u or ask for PayPal.
 
That's what I figured, I was trying to determine a value for my 2245 and was surprised to see this silly stuff.
I'll set up to meet him at 7 and offer to bring some beers :beerchug:.
 
FWIW, I’ve seen ads for a black-face 2245, bought at a PX, in listings from Norfolk VA, Cincinnati, and at least one other East Coast city recently. Map was showing seller at each location; he must move a lot.:rolleyes:

Thats what criminals, scammers and thieves do. Staying in one place too long is a good way to get locked up.

He only accepts Paypal friends and family ONLY, not goods and services, so there is no recourse once he's stolen your money.

I gotta say, those blackface Marantz units look sharp. Hope that guy keeps making them.

ETA: maybe a community flooding of Mr. Culver's ads so he can't separate the wheat from the chaff is called for? A few dozen people trolling him is probably the only way to inflict discomfort.
 
@goodolpg and @milo63: Could you please explain what you mean when you say you are "flagging" him? Is that a process on Craigslist, and if so should we all be doing it when we see a scammer? Because I'd be happy to do it too if it helps. I do see that listing has now been deleted from CL. Thanks!
 
Right above the bold black text that identifies the item being sold there are:
a box with reply, then the words favorite, hide, flag.

By clicking on the flag word it shows that you beleive that particular listing violates one or more of Craigslists' rules.
Or, from the official CL page,

Flags and Community Moderation
craigslist users self-publish tens of millions of free postings each month, subject to the CL terms of use (TOU).

CL users flag prohibited postings they find via the flagging link at the top of each posting.

Free classified ads sufficiently flagged are subject to automated removal.

Postings may also be flagged for removal by CL staff or CL automated systems.

Millions of ads are removed by flagging monthly, nearly all of which violate the CL terms of use.

Of course no moderation system is perfect, and a small percentage of ads removed are compliant.

Flagged postings that comply with the TOU may be reposted, reworded as necessary.

For help from CL users regarding flagging, visit flag help forum, and follow the instructions there.

Funny or memorable postings may be nominated for "best of craigslist" via the "best-of" link.
 
Perhaps the scammer could have dragged this out a bit longer if he'd used a regular silver 2245.

He's still using the black faceplate 2245. Asking $275. Has posted and reposted a number of times on St Louis Craigslist in the last few weeks. Same pics as shown in his other reported scams.
