Marantz 2270 engraved face plate update

I have been trying to research how many silver engraved 2270 units were made out of the 4,000 total made. Reminder, the run started at 1,001 and ended at 5,000 according to what I have read from many others. This sounds right because I had a serial number 5025 and it was not engraved.

So far I have 3 silver serial numbers from 2270's. They are #'s 2158, 3452 & 4340.

The other 15 champagne engraved #'s I have are pretty close before and after the 2158 and 3452 units. Based on this limited info it does appear that the silver engraved units may have been pretty rare within the limited run of 4,000 engraved 2270's made.

I have almost no numbers in the 4,000 to 5,000 range at this time. I am asking for help. If you have or know of any 2270 engraved units please let me know what the serial # is and if it is gold or silver and is it a coarse finish or a very shiny finish on the face plate. Thanks for your help. Will update as I get more info.

Champagne or silver? Could you post pic if your not sure. The silver is defn silver in color.

Hey guys, this may sound a little strange, but I have a 2270 that definitely has an engraved champagne faceplate with all the characteristics of a champagne engraved unit on the inside and outside (so I know it's not just the faceplate that someone slapped on a regular unit)... but my serial number is in the low 6000s. Could someone explain that? I've seen on the internet that they go up to like 5000 but mine is for sure a champagne engraved unit with a serial number past that 5000 mark. Anyone know what the deal is?

The early 2270's have two extra pots on each amp board for ASO adjustment in addition to the bias and dc offset pots..
See if yours has them,that would indicate a first run production.

Survey Update information: I have a sample of 30 engraved units with only 3 being confirmed engraved silver models. The silver serial #'s are 2660, 3452 and 4340. In between these 3 silver numbers are the other 27 champagne engraved faceplates. Most are within a few hundred, or closer, units of the silver units.

I have no info from numbers 4340 to 5000. Once I get more info in this range I then can more accurately estimate how rare the silver engraved models were.

I had a non engraved unit at 5019 (I believe) so unless Marantz restarted engraved units again I think the 5,000 end point may be accurate.
However, the post above me adds a new wrinkle. Would like to see a photo of the face plate just to be certain it is engraved and what color it is.

Hope u get a lot more responses to this post. If you had a engraved model, know if it was champagne or silver, and have in file the serial # please let me know as well. Thanks again!

Serial plate numbers on the 2270 silver & the champagne engraved models indicate the silver engraved units were made between the following #'s:
2522-2810
3322-3452
3453-3770
4146-5000

This is a total of possibly of 1588 silver engraved units out of 4,000 total engraved 2270's, or 39.70%. However I have very limited serial # information between 4145-5000 (except 2 silver engraved). I know there were probably other Champagne models made between the above noted gaps. I anticipate the 39.70% will drop significantly once I get more info between these gaps.

I'm also trying to make sure the production run for the 2270 engraved face plate ended at 5,000 as well. So far I know a 2270 around 5025 was not engraved, so that lends credibility to the ending point of 5,000.

So please 2270 engraved owners, let me know what ur serial # is and if champagne or silver. This is really good FYI information to the history of the 2270 and the Marantz community in general.

Any chance u could post a photo of the face plate. This is good info for the survey. Within the silver editions there is a shiny finish and a more brushed "rougher" finish. Both look great but different. I'm courios which finish this has. Thank u again for the reply. I hope many others will respond as well.

The texture of faceplate seems "smooth" to me. I bought this while out of town, so not home yet to compare to my other Marantz models.

Another 2270 seller on E-Bay trying to sell a mid production model serial (50,000 ish) and pass it off as a champagne engraved unit.

Was hoping to add info to this survey but not this time.

Here's a comparison photo of my engraved 2270:

You can clearly see the tone difference between the champagne face 2270 (below) and the "regular" 2245 above. Also, many of the early engraved units had a gold colored chassis, like this:

Note the serial number. I would be interested to learn where exactly they stopped making the engraved, champagne faced units.

Hi Mike thanks for your response. is the #1366 the same serial # on the rear panel? Also where in the inner chassis did you find that stamp?

FYI, there is a silver engraved unit on eBay right now with the # 5116 so the ending point I always heard of 5,000 may be off. His ad claims 6,000 was the ending point. I'm going to contact him regarding his claim/information. I personally owned a unit just barely over 5000 that was not engraved so it may right around those numbers. I was hoping to get a lot more responses from this forum from 2270 owners. The info I have so far is mostly all my research.
