Marantz 2285B Owners!

I'm a 2285B convert! I've owned most of the bigger Marantz receivers including the 2600, 2500, 2385, 2325, 4400, and 2270. IMHO, the 2285B's combination of power and sweetness has them all beaten! There is one notable exception I've not heard: I'd like to try a 2330B...

How about a 2385? Not a black dial version but cool too.

Hopefully I will have mine up and running by the next couple months.

I've been more of a separates person but I needed something for my home office that took up less space. A good friend and longtime Marantz repair technician turned hobbyist suggested the 2285B. Well I took his advice and got one this past March, had it shipped directly to him and was amazed at the job he did and how well it performs. Since I got it home in July, all my other vintage Marantz equipment in the house went on sabbatical leave. So I guess I'm a convert too and my hand is in the air.

One of my favorite receivers. I currently have two of them hanging around (again - got a second, sold it, and recently got a second one again), and one stays in a "permanent" stack in my home-office and gets fairly heavy rotation in my evening headphone listening.

Good sound from tuner section or good inputs aside, lately I've been enjoying streaming some old-time radio shows off the internet, and the 2285B does the best job of any receiver I've tried of "warming up" the sound while keeping the details clear. Makes the poorer-quality old recordings more listenable and enjoyable, less fatiguing.

Besides, it is the only 22XX receiver whose knobs aren't gap-toothed! :D

Mine plays every day, and I never tire of listening to it. And it has looks to kill for - this is the kind of amp you keep on display to get mesmerized by.

Agreed! I'm playing mine with my trusty bench speakers and the sound is something special. I'm not sure what I'm going to pair my 2285B with. My speaker collection just underwent a MASS EXTINCTION so there is not much left...

You have to ask yourself, is there any speaker that won't sound good with a 2285b?

This receiver is the best.

The 2285B is one of the few pieces of gear I have that isn't Yamaha. Very nice sounding, and looks great in it's wood case.

I've got my 2285 [no B]pushing a pair of heresy IIs' holdin' down the back yard music duties. I just love this combination:yippy:

The Master !!!

The 2285B is one of the greatest sounding , impressive looking receivers ever made.
I would like to add IMHO , but , its not !!! .... ITS A FACT . One for the history books.
Just does everything well and sounds like separates just for the fun of it:music:

Peace

Wow, that's a strong opinion from someone with as many receivers as you have.:scratch2: I completely agree!:D
