I've seen a few threads with folks asking about cases for their 22xx model Marantz receivers. I had a saved search on eBay and almost all the true vintage cases I saw had issues - chips to the veneer, water damage, sagging screens, etc. I ended up buying a repro case for my 2270 that turned out to be - in my opinion - a great deal. Walnut ply, bookmatched top and sides, solid MDF bottom, thick ventilation screen, and holes pre-drilled for feet. I'm not affiliated with the seller in any way, other than having bought a case from them. It arrived meticulously packed and very well padded / protected. The only thing you have to do is buy some new (longer) screws for the receiver feet. Clean and solid joints and corners, I'm very pleased with the one I got. Again - no relation at all to the seller - but I wish I had saved months of looking at banged-up old original cases and just bought the repro from the start. Seller name on eBay is "asaalah" (mods, hope it's OK to post that - if not please advise). Made in USA. The builder also makes other Marantz cases.

It was US$155 plus US$35 shipping anywhere in the US (or at least, the lower 48). Not sure about shipping to AK / HI / international, but after researching other aftermarket makers, looking at beat-up original cases, and reading their feedback, I am confident I got the best case at the best price.
 
thanks for suggestions, I am looking for a wood case for 2285b.
Edited: I don't think he sales anymore as I didn't see him listing any wood case. :(
 
There are a number of good makers of repro cases out there. I am through buying and refinishing original cases when the new ones are perfection. I have a WC-22 made by asaalah, and I ordered a WC-43 from him last week. But I also have another WC-22 made in Germany that was excellent. You don't have to buy through eBay. You can contact Joe directly at joe@asaalah.com. He's in Missouri. Again...I have no connection to Joe. He just does great work as do several others I have seen.
 
I also use him for any restored units i own or that I sell on e-bay where the original wood case is not up to par. I picked his work because the finish closely resembles what the originals look like. The cases themselves are of very high quality. I used to buy from a guy in Texas but the finish was different and unpredictable from piece to piece, so I stopped using him.

The later 3 piece wood case associated with the all silver front 22xxb, 2330b, 2385, 2500 and 2600 still seem to be an untapped market. Most reproduction sellers try and use the solid one piece that frankly is not attractive looking on the big units as the 3 piece wood case IMHO.

It is nice that reproduction pieces like this are even available and I'm grateful that we as owners even have that option!

Hey, that's me, I'm still selling. Not so much on eBay these days but I'm in barter town, look me up!
