Marantz 2500 Come Home - In FedEx Limbo

Hi, Concerning the lost Fedx Reciever.I pretty sure you can get a signed release from seller and then you will recieve money. Also from a good source from AudioKarma says not to mention that it's a Vintage unit. I had this happen on some repair work, damage I should add, and thats the way I was told to handle it. another time I had damage by fedx, they come to pick item up and was supose to be sent back to me, they sent it to the seller, ended up the item went back and forth to Cal. and me in St. Louis 4 times and about 3 weeks later I got it. So good luck and once you file your claim stay on them.

It has been several years ago, I do not know if the service is still this good, but:

I had an overnight package from a client (I was trying to meet a deadline for them) that got mis-routed, and showed up at a sort facility FAR from where it should have been instead of arriving at my office. I called, was urgent but civil and FIRM about needing the package. I was connected direcctly to a manager at the sort facility, they took a phone onto the sort floor, found my package (it was routed to the wrong truck yet AGAIN) and put in the right bin headed back toward me. I got it the next day. The phone call was tedious, stressful, and took almost two hours, but got results.

The lesson I took away from this: Be RELENTLESS. Don't let them off the phone, or off the hook, and keep your temper under wraps.

And BTW, I hope I never have to do it again.

Good advice. I have been trying to stay under control but it is hard not to get bent out of shape because it is a 2500 we are talking about. It's back to the phone tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

Still no sign of my Marantz 2500. I talked to Fedex again today and they said they are still working on the package trace. I also talked to the iSoldit seller and they are mighty pissed. Looks like they will have to pay the consignor regardless of whether I received it or not. And, the insurance money goes to me. This sucks all around. I am still hopeful.

Today, I spoke to the Fedex Dallas Customer Advocate. Here are the theories we have developed. My Marantz fell out of the box and cannot be matched to my tracking number. This seems unlikely because the iSoldit people say they taped the crap out of the box.

The second more likely scenario is the label somehow fell off making the box unidentifiable. iSoldit used a stickon plastic envelope that held a paper copy of the shipping info, similar to what you get with an overnight envelope. Somehow, the paper got out of the plastic envelope during one of the scans or the whole thing got taken off due to rubbing on other packages. They neglected to write my name or tracking number on the box, which would have solved the whole problem.

That's BS!
The unit was probably stolen. What a bunch of crooks!

I remember that's exactly what they said when my MC275 failed to show up. They said the package had been damaged and the tracking information unreadable.

I hope that by some miracle it shows up.

Shhhhuuuurrrre. I also have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like you to look at.
That's my bridge! I bought it on ebay. :D

Hope you get your 2500 soon. Find out the time frame for placing your claim and place a claim ASAP. That should safe guard you against any limitations.

SoCal, ask the fedex rep to search "overgoods" in Memphis. I used to work in the main hub there, and they have a large warehouse there that is used to store, identify and(hopefully) re-unite items with the recipient. Gather ALL the info you can about the amp, dimensions, weight, color, what its made of, model and serial number, etc. Offer to e-mail them them pictures of one. You would not believe the items that showed up at overgoods, missing labels, missing the packing box, etc. Thousands upon thousands of items show up there every week, and most of the people there don't have a clue what the item is. They try to enter as accurate a description as possible in the computer and then when a custromer calls in they try to match his description to an item in the system. I've seen complete, crated engines show up there simply because the paperwork got pulled off in shipping and nobody knew where to send it. BTW, it could take a few days for it to actually get there and get cataloged. Try to get in direct touch with someone in overgoods, get names, be friendly with them, but be persistent. Here's hoping you get it back. I'm betting it wasn't stolen. Theft from their system is really not very easy, except by the actual delivery courier who would be bringing to your house. All he has to do is neglect to scan it as he puts it on his truck and then deliver it to an alternate address.

Ghog: Nice to hear from a FedEx insider, many thanks for your advice. My tracking number is:

5940293 60002619

Does this indicate it was lost in the warehouse or stolen or what?

Luckily, the iSoldit auction took detailed pictures of the unit. It is missing two knobs on the scope adjustment so that may help to identify it. Also, there are not that many 2500's floating around. Unfortunately, the iSoldit people failed to take a serial number. Have a look...

Yeah, I have been talking to the Dallas Customer Advocate but that is not the Memphis facility you mentioned. That will be a good place to go.

rcriss: Neat looking Avatar. Is that a 2600 with a custom wood cover?

The tracking number is just the 15 digit number assigned to the shipment when it is shipped. It is very important in locating a package. Each employee who handles the package should have a scanner to scan the bar code. Each scanner is downloaded into the main computer, thus generating a history of where the package has been in the system, including who was the last to handle it. Any employee could attemt to steal a package by not scanning it and setting it aside, but almost all work in facilities where they would have to carry it through a security screening. Only the couriers who pick it up and deliver it have any real opportunity to steal, since they can neglect to scan and then drop it off anywhere they want. But even that is risky, because there will be a scan when the package entered the station, and no scan by a courier. 2 or 3 of these by the same courier and management gets suspicious and they will catch them.

More likely your baby is floating around somewhere. It may have lost its shipping label, or worse, the box may have failed. If it split open someone would pull it off the conveyor and take it to rewrap to be reinforced. But sometimes the box and the item become seperated, and that has to go to overgoods. iSoldit should have put a label directly on your baby as well as the external label. At least then Fedex would have some way of identifying it and repackaging it.

Most of the couriers aren't going to risk their jobs over something like that. Usually the theives will be looking for smaller, higher value stuff. Jewelry store shipments are prime targets. I was once called in by security in Memphis to be questioned about a package I had scanned. It showed me as the last person to handle it, and no scans in Chicago. Turns out a courier was working with an unloader. Neither was scanning packages going to a couple of jewelry stores, so it looked like the packages never made it out of Memphis. The package in question that time contained a 52 carat ruby!! :yikes:

Be persistent. I think your unit will surface. Unfortunately, there may be a lot of damage if the box failed. How much does one of those things weigh? It looks huge!

Hey Ghog:

Thanks again for taking the time to write, your info is comforting. I feel a little better about my prospects. Yeah, I am PO'ed that iSoldit failed to write my name and address on the box.

Unpackaged, it weighs 65 pounds. They say they did a good job of packaging so BCS is my 2500 package is still intact and not flopping around on the conveyors. It makes me cringe to think about all of the additional miles my 2500 has to travel before it gets to me.

Sam.

UPS had a scam going where the tracking numbers for stolen items, particularly firearms, simply disappeared from the system, as if the numbers never existed. This despite the shipments being tracked part of the way. I understand that some arrests were made.

So far, I have been very happy with Fed Ex.

As far as labels, when I ship, I put on the Fed Ex label, but also place two of my own address labels, one on one end, and one on the same panel as the Fed Ex label. Then I put several strips of wide clear packing tape over the labels.

I also use 2" wide fiberglass tape. Unless run over by the delivery truck, my boxes don't fail.

Hello Sam, Yes that is a 2600 with a custom wood cab finished with an Automotive acrylic urethane topcoat. you can't see it in the avatar but the gloss is so high you can see the reflection of the wall texture in the cab..looks awesome, But i am sad to say it is not mine :tears: I just thought it was cool. I could send u a full size pic if you would like it. If I ever figure out this damn digital camera i will post some pics of my 2385 and the 4400 that arrived today

Great News! I got home around midnight after being out all day and my heart jumped when I saw a box at my front door. The box was a little tatty and some crushed peanuts were leaking out. But there it was, my 2500 has finally come home.

I opened the box and the peanuts had not shifted too much, all corners of the unit were suspended. I got the unit out and it looked fine. The bottom cover was dented so I took it off and straightened it. The electronics and chassis looked fine underneath so the bottom cover damage was purely cosmetic. I opened the top cover for a look and the only thing I have found so far is the fuse light housing has come adrift and the plastic light shroud is cracked. I super glued and it is drying as I write this. The FM light is missing but no big deal, I will move the Dolby light over (not needed because there is no Dolby adaptor.) No major cosmetic shipping damage and no broken circuit boards that I can see. It is in much better shape than I expected. When the lights are fixed, I will try to power up. Full report and pics to follow.

Thanks to all the AK folks who are pulling for me, karma has come my way!!
