Marantz 2600 Refurb Thread

Next the rear panel is loosened and hinged down. There were two missing screws. Then the dusty old fan is unfastened and put on top to unsolder the wires.

The foam gasket is rotted and will be replaced with homey store weatherstrip. The fan gets replaced with a new EBM Pabst ball bearing unit (thanks to a tip from Tom / catrafter on my 2500 rebuild). The bearings on this guy were a bit noisy anyway!

Could you please share model number of EBM Pabst ball bearing fan which can be used as a replacement?

I have been using EMB (Pabst) model 4606Z in 500, 510, 2500 models. They fit perfectly, but may not be the 'exact' replacement that I was led to believe in that they may be a bit 'louder' than the original Boxer fan.
If I could find the specs on the old fan perhaps a better comparison could be made. They seem to be OK in everything but the 500 as the fan runs on high all the time in them.
I returned the original fan to the client, I will see if I can get the part number from him.

That's the one I use since Tom suggested it to me. It seems quieter to me than the originals in all 4 or 5 that I've replaced.

Thanks Tom and @rBuckner
Excellent restoration there @rBuckner!!!

My 2600 Euro unit is going through an issue which seems like a tough one to fix.. Now its with the fourth technician.

The initial tech who recapped the unit broke one of the input selector switch wafer ( third from front). The second technician fixed the wafer by placing the contacts on a donor wafer. But he changed the alignment of each wafer when put them back together. The result was no output on left channel all light indicators worked wrongly based on what we select.
The third technician fixed the alignment of last two wafers (input selection L&R). The sound came back on both channels but all light indicators are glowing wrongly based on selections. He said its tough to fix the lights and that board is too difficult to pull out each time to try different positions of front two wafer.

Now its with fourth technician.... hope he can fix it.

That board is a bitch alright. It has about 30 hardwired pins that lock it down pretty well. It's so easy to snap those switch wafers too, yanking the board up to change out caps and such. I busted one on a 2385 and had to swap in a whole other switch, I think. By the way, ask the tech if there are any of those tall TO-92 transistors in there and if there are, have him change out the 2SA912's as they're troublemakers! Use KSA1013. It has the same pinout.
