Marantz 3300 stereo selector mod

My name is Ryan and I am restoring this unit, all works as intended however, Is there a way to modify the Stereo selector switch to only be in stereo mode. Customer wants the switch disabled and for it to play in stereo mode only.

Any suggestion's?

I would think the easiest way would probably be to just bypass the selector all together, leaving the sector switch stock and in place. That way it could be put back to factory if he ever wanted to sell it. Modifying the switch itself would really hurt the value.
Your talking about the stereo/mono/left only/right only selector at the lower right?

I don't like messing with things that work.

The selector works perfectly, he just wants it modified so that the selector will do nothing but will play in stereo. He apparently read somewhere that these switches cause issues and he is worried this one will.
 
If it isn't causing any problems I don't see why anything needs to be done.
I don't think I've ever had a problem with the Marantz rotory stereo/mono selector. It's not something that gets used much, if at all by most people.
These were made in the earlier 70's. There were still people playing mono records and recordings, so it was added. Some people still do, but not near as many as back then. By '73 or so when this preamp came out almost everyone played stereo recordings only. So this switch just didn't get used, and worn out like input selectors did. And even if in the future there was some noise or intermittent channel drop out due to this switch, all that would be needed is a shot of contact cleaner. My advice is to leave it in stereo mode and forget it.

LOL... Get paid and give him a high estimate over what you've done for the extra service. you're doing (foolish) guy a favor in the long run. Or simply say pay me and take it elsewhere. be adamant yourself!
