Marantz 4070 all original

Local guy has a Marantz 4070 for $325 that he has tested and says everything works. It doesn't have the SQ add-on thing, but I'm good with that. Cosmetic condition looks pretty good from pics. No mention of any restoration, so I'm going with none. He's stated that $325 is rock-bottom price for him. Besides it being a Marantz, fair value for what the 4070 is? Seems they go for around $350-450 on that auction site. Guessing at best if I don't like it I'd get a few bucks more for what he's selling it for, right? Here's a couple pics:

I'm going to go against the grain and say that it's probably a fair price but no bargain.
The quad Marantz just don't fetch the crazy prices that their more common / popular models do (unless you're talking something like a 4400. I had a fully recapped really nice cosmetics 4430 and I had a hell of a time selling it!). Likewise with their integrated amps, they're just not as popular as the receivers. What we have here is a quad integrated, two strikes.
eBay prices seem to support this thinking; completed sales are in the $3-400 range, and at least around here stuff doesn't move until it's about 70-80% of eBay prices.

ya, looks clean, kinda rare (tho I haven't checked the production numbers) and in a couple years, sell for 500 if you wish.
I'd buy it if it were next door. It's not a screaming deal, but a solid deal.

There's one one eBay right now. Looks like a early one with serial no. 2141.

and another one bid at 71.00 with 2 day remaining. Its a parts/repair unit but comes with WC-22 wood case!

Bought it for 3 bills. Maybe I'll regret it someday, but whatever, life is short. Slight hum in the headphone jacks, going to have to figure out how to address that. But otherwise it sounds nice. Will probably make a wood case for it, the fake wood metal ain't that attractive.

Here's mine, the 220-240v capable version, with an extra fuse/mains voltage config board cramped inbetween the transformator and the PSU board..
Case is a German made repro wood case. Luckily it also fits the Maranz 1060.
I have a fully restored 4070 and compare it to my all orginal & clean copy of the Marantz 1060.
The sound of the original 1060 may be apealing at first but if you move to the restored 4070, that is of course day and night.
Really no competition at all, so please readers, forget about running these 40-50 year old amps with "don't fix anything that ain't broken" mentality thinking.
Having some fun driving high efficiency speakers with 4070 on 15WPC mode, still very punchy and clear as a bell. Survives the hottest room temperatures.
I 'd say a touch of warm colored sound still remains.
Be certain to do a very precice job in adjusting the voltages as this is key to have a good sound in 2x 35WPC mode!
What I don't like is the phono part.
Life is too short indeed but I'll check this thread to see if any enthousiastic report shows up later Have fun all!
