Marantz 6300, want one how?

Marantz has allways been my love through life, by that I meen vintage stuff.

Now I`m trying to get hold of what I`ve had when I was young. :banana:

Don`t know if it`s the -50 plus year of me or what, but I really in need of a vintage 6300 Marantz TT.

But as You know I live in Sweden, not the most Marantz crowded country sorry to say.

And when a nice 6300 turns up at ebay the price is very high, that I can live whith.
But when the shipping nearly costs as much as the TT, thats when I cry.:tears:

What should I do?

Hi, Sten and welcome!

That's a pretty difficult problem to surmount. The 6300, as well as other vintage Marantz gear, does come at a price. Additionally, the stories of turntables utterly destroyed in transit are legion! As a result, were I in your shoes, I just wouldn't order a turntable shipped from overseas by a private seller. Period. I'd even have a fair amount of trepidation about getting one shipped from another European country, or even another part of Sweden.

Unless you're wedded to the 6300 in particular, you might try to widen your search to include similar turntables made by the same company which made the 6300 and others for Marantz. That would be Chuo Denki, who also used C.E.C., C.D.C and Harksound as brands. I think they're somewhat easier to find (under their own name) in Europe than they are here. They're certainly going to be easier to find than a Marantz 6300.

I guess you hate us guys in the states that pick up one at a thrift store for $10 :banana:.Seriously though I hope one day you can find what your looking for.It may just come down to paying the piper if this gear is not common where you live if you want one bad enough.

They keep going up and up in price, and keep getting prettier and prettier. I cry with you and wonder if I will ever be able to own one at the rate they're going. Boo Hoo.

Sten, I have seen a few 6300 up for auction within the last year on Tradera.com in Sweden, so maybe you don`t have to look too far for them.

Yess, the wooden cabinett of a 6300 for 99euro, what a bargain,,,,,,
But I`m a little bit interested, perhaps buy this pice and try to put together a working TT, or?

The 6300 for sale here in Sweden are as rare as I would struck gold.

But of cource I`l keep on looking.

Hi again!

I told You I was interested in buying the wooden cabinet and sent a question about shipping costs to the seller.
Then I discovered that he is also selling the motor 99euro-the button set 99euro-the disc 99euro.
Total of around 400euro, +shipping what a schmuck.
No sign of the arm and cables.
But there was a possibility of "make an offer".
Should I offer half that amount?

I have never looked closely to see but if these are switchable 110/220 perhaps you could get someone here in US to get you one at a good price they ship over there without price gouging. I am sure there are any number of helpful knowledgeable folks that could assist.
 
Hi Sten :) And welcome. To your question on the parts. My concern would be finding the rest of the parts to get that 6300 running. As you know, the tables are not that easy to find, therefore parts can be expensive. Lots of times in this hobby, parts sold seperately are worth more than the unit as a whole. I would keep looking if I were you. Last year, I bought some Yamaha NS-670 speakers. I was excited as these were speakers I remembered from my youth at some high end audio stores in the 70's. One tweeter was dead. So I went onto EBay and found a set. I lost the bid, but figured surely another would come along..........4 months later another single tweeter comes up. Its priced twice as high as the set went for 4 months earlier. Price finally dropped to what the set had gone for and I pulled the trigger. The Yamahas are not as rare IMHO as that 6300, so you could spend some time waiting....This is of course, just my opinion :) Good luck in your search.

It's unfortunate when you are in one place, and the gear you want is on the other side of the planet... especially when there is a price differential AND a high shipping cost AND shipping risks.

I'd suggest you look around Europe. The price will likely be higher, but that will be partly offset by lower shipping costs. If you can get the sellers to pack well and ship by surface, you may get lucky. Patience plus diligence should be the keys. Eventually, you will get what you want.

The 6300 is relatively rare, but can be found if you keep looking, at least online. I've seen several here in Hong Kong, ranging from a beat-up one for a cheap price to a new-looking one at a high price. If money is a factor, you might get a unit that needs a little work, and fix it up, but it's nice to have one that is "mint" from the start, if you are willing to pay for it.

If you subscribe to AK ($25 per year), you can access a forum called "Bartertown" and put up a free "Want to buy" ad for one. Perhaps there is an AKer who would be willing to sell you one for a reasonable price(?). You'd have a good chance of having it well-packed if you did buy one from an AKer, since most of us love this gear and want to keep it safe and undamaged, plus we have threads to draw upon about how to pack turntables the RIGHT way.
 
i've seen one 6320 locally in serbia for 2.300 euros...:( is this the same thing as 6300, what's the difference?
