Most film caps tend to last a good long time. Unless a particular brand is known to drift, you can just leave them. It would be nice to know what type were used originally though. They look like some Mylar caps I've seen. Some seem to feel they aren't the best for crossovers for various reasons. The Mundorf oil and aluminum are nice caps though. It's a waste of money to use the silver or gold. I couldn't hear any difference between them and the aluminum version.

I was mostly curious because my HD66 have the yellow caps, and was pleasantly surprised to hear the OP's haven't drifted far from spec.
Not that mine will be getting recapped any time soon as I have a couple other pairs of "large-ish" bookshelf speakers ahead of them (in my mind) should I wish to go back to smaller speakers.

I'm just curious if they are mylar or not. I see posts here and on other forums where people just replace them when found. I've read several articles on why they aren't optimal, don't remember much why, but companies like Klipsch used them through out some crossovers and the die hard fans won't change them. I think they are chosen sometimes for the sonic signature wanted over price. If they sound good, I wouldn't yank them. Considering who designed the HD series, I personally would be hesitant to the change them unless I did an A/B test between the two speakers. One stock, the other recapped.
Finally noticed that there is upload file button - always tried to use the icons on top of the posting box, duhh.

To the sound topic - I actually did a/b testing, by doing first one of them.
Knowing who designed them - I seriously don't think I can improve on them from that perspective, I have no illusions about that
However... you have to remember that in some regards technologies have quite evolved in the last 40-50 years... and nobody knows what caps would have used Ed May today.
As you saw from my previous post - they were all not only within spec but not very far from their ideal values. They also sounded better vs. the Solen ones I tired but it took a while to realize this. The Mundorf's sound better vs. original ones to my ears - so I'm happy camper. Technically speaking they are a "waste of money", since the old ones were also sounding good and were technically in good condition. Given my personal tastes - I am happy with the upgrade.
