Marantz Model 9 Prototype

Just a thought. See if Marantz would be interested. Maybe they're just a bean counting money grabbing corporation now (i don't know). They may have some desire for archival or possibly advertising purposes. It might be worth an email

I've called and spike to a couple of people there but can only get in touch with receptionists and people who don't even know what a Model 9 is. Clueless.

As much as it kills me to part with this, I need to buy a house for my growing family and this would go a long way towards my down payment.

You can search that popular auction site, it'll pop up.

Did it get pulled? I can't find it on the auction site. My search was "Marantz Model 9 Holy Grail Prototype"

Ouch is right!

It was really amazing having it in my possession for the little time I did. I spent a few good relaxing nights listening to some jazz on the Altecs with it in Sauls good company.

I've come to the realization that some things are more important than a really cool, rare amplifier hiding in my bedroom that nobody but me gets to enjoy. This is making a big impact on my ability to purchase a bigger home for my growing family. I've actually sold a lot of my stuff in the past month.

The way I see it is soon I will have more space for more gear and will even have a dedicated listening room! Down the road Im certain i will end up with a matched pair of 9s, or model 2s.

Most of the amps' potential is the opts, backed by a good support circuit. Afaik, Marantz/ Smith never skimped on the opts of any of the Marantz tube amps. Any of them, including the relatively common 8/ 8b stereo amps should please.

I saw this model on Ebay and wondering how good this sounds comparing to the newer model like MA-9S2 and of course the MA-9S2 is a solid state. Anyone has an experience with MA-9S2 and this model 9?
