Marantz Transistor/Diode/Trimmer Sub Guide

I see you need a replacement for a 2SD315E with TO-66 case. I believe an option is a NTE 175 with a TO-66 case. They cost about $6 from NTE. NTE has the 2n4231 as a replacement too but TO-220. I hate the change to a TO-220. I found a stash of ECG 291's and ECG 292'S that work too. I believe the ECG company changed to NTE 30 ??? years ago. Hope this works.
I replaced the MJE15030 with the NTE175, because I agree that it is nice to have the same case. However, Ic for the 2SD315 is 4A and Ic for the NTE175 is only 2A. Because of this, I listed the Ic rating in red to indicate it might not be robust enough, so buyer beware. It would depend on the application, I presume. I left 2N4231 because it is a very good match up in specs. But, I tried not to use subs that were not available at either Mouser or Digikey. This one is not. But it is still manufactured, so a comprehensive search might find it somewhere. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, I did another data dive and compiled a fairly comprehensive list of 99% of the transistors and diodes used in 70's era Marantz stereo integrated amps and receivers. I scanned threads until I was blue in the face, and scanned the internet for specs. I searched every Service Manual to pull a list of transistors and diodes. I looked for recommended subs throughout the threads, and collected the ones that were repeated often, or that someone had successfully used. I can't be sure of the appropriateness of any of the listed subs, but these are the ones I would start with if I were looking for a sub. I tried to search for availability, and only use subs I could find. Many recommendations that I came across turned out to be obsolete. I'm hoping the gurus will take a little time to scan for obvious problem suggestions, or to fill in blanks where I couldn't find any info. Please let me know if you find errors or have better suggestions for any sub. So, here is a link to the Excel spreadsheet on my Google Drive and I am attaching a PDF for those that don't have Excel handy. Give me suggestions on how to improve my list! Search for your transistor or diode in the left column (alpha order), and look for subs in the columns to the right.

Question on a Marantz 2220, P200 board F201 and F203 only # i have is SFC 10.7 MC any idea what these are and know a replacement part #....thank you
 
These are ceramic bandpass filters that pass only the 10.7 MHz IF frequency, and block frequencies either side of that. Are you sure they are bad?

Not sure if they are or not. i am still trying to find the cause of the meter and stereo light inop...FM pulls in all stations well but not in stereo..
 
Looks like this is made for Marantz from the 1970s. Is there also one for Marantz from the early 1980s. For example 1980, 1981 and 1982.

It was very time consuming and definitely aimed at the 10/11xx integrated amps and 22/23xx receivers. If someone wanted to research the PM models or even the quad units, I wouldn't mind adding them to the list.
 
@Steven Tate , I just put the list in your original post to good use. Ordered some output transistors for my 2275 based on the sub you recommended. Thanks for the time and effort put into this.

Awesome. Hope they work out for you. Generally, for mid and higher power units, the outputs are MJ21193/94. I'm guessing that's what you found?

That's it, 2 x MJ21193G and 2 x MJ21194G. BTW, is the G a gain code?

I'm probably throwing parts at the problem, but since it's the right channel that's out I'm hoping it's the output transistors. Besides, they haven't been changed in decades. They're not the originals, I changed those out a while back. It had been running fine, but one night I turned it on and nothing out of the right side.

It's been so long I don't remember what I used for thermal grease. What it the recommended grease for today's applications?
 
I believe the G code represents the federally mandated Pb free versions of the transistors. They work fine anywhere the non-G will work. Any non-conductive thermal compound will work. A common one, and the one I use, is Dow Corning 340 Heat Sink Compound.

Thank you. Transistors arrived yesterday. I'll find some thermal compound and then start repairing.

Edit: Just ordered the Dow 340, thanks again.

NTE has an app I put on my phone just type in the marantz transistor and it pulls up it's equal. They are expensive!
Everything NTE is over priced. Sometimes way over priced. And I don't trust their "equivalent" components. Many are simply "close enough to work", but nowhere near optimal. You really have no idea what you are getting since all their components are remarks of something else. Simply put, NTE doesn't make anything of their own.
But in a pinch, most NTE components will work better than silence. :D
 
Your right about that NTE prices. Tayda electronics has cheap parts but spec out really well and hard to find. I bought 20 pounds of fifty different capacitors and several hundred transistors for 3 cent to 8 cents each. Check it out.
 
... These are 2SA763 and are known to become "leaky" as they age; replace with KSA992.

Just wanted to add this since I'm working on 2250 that has them at H702/H703. Just came across this, and want to replace any known problematic components. Unfortunately, I just finished with the two 700 boards, but will go back in to change them.
