I'm not finding a lot of reviews or information about these. Are opinions still favorable of the Motion 40s ? There is a pair locally in mint condition and the photos look beautiful. I think they are asking $850 . I'd be using 40 WPC for now which isn't much but I don't need to rattle the windows. I prefer clarity and separation but would like some bass when I play classic rock. Are the Motion 40s a good choice or is there a better choice for $800 ?

Well, the pair of Motion 40's two months ago was sold before I could make up my mind. Fortunately, another pair came up for sale last week, only an hour away, and for considerably less money so I wasted no time getting an audition. They sounded and looked excellent so after some price negotiating I made the purchase. So far after several hours of in-home listening I'm very pleased with them: in my opinion they have a good amount and good quality of bass, great mids, and the highs are very revealing but not harsh thanks to the folded tweeter. Looking forward to spending more time with them.

They are nice. Like I said, of all the speakers in that price range I've bought over the years they are the best. I had the 60's, traded them to a buddy because he wanted them. Wish I kept them.

Glad to see you still have the Martin Logan Motion 40s and are still here giving your impressions of them. I did see one post where you tried the 60s and you said you liked the 40s better.......can you give some reasons why you liked the 40s better than the 60s ?
One of the modern speakers on my list would be the Martin Logan Motion 60XTi speakers. Also the Martin Logan Foundation F2
I have not listened to the 40's, but I can comment on the 60's. Purchased a pair of Motion 60XT's in January 2018 and still love them. The tweeter is beautiful and the bass is resounding. Never get fatigued listening to this pair. I have found The Animals 'House of the Rising Sun' to be stunning through these, and that recording is 50+ years old. Not to mention the Trans Siberian Orchestra blaring through these during the month of December. Love them!
I recently sold them. I upgraded and they weren't being used. The gentleman who bought them loves them. Glad they went to a good home.

I think they were more accurate. And they probably were better suited for my room.

I was looking at the difference between the 40 and the 60......Martin Logan had a Motion 40, but the 60 is only the Motion 60XT and the 60XTi. The difference being that the 60 has the XT version of the tweeter which is larger and am told not as forward/bright sounding as the smaller tweeter in the 40. Plus the 60XTi has two 8" woofers rather than the two 6.5" woofers in the 40. Of course a cost increase goes with that.
The 40 were 2000.00/pair and the 60XTi about 3700.00/pair. The reason I am kind of salivating over the 60XTi right now is because they have been replaced by the FT200. The shop I frequent has what they have left in stock on sale for about 2200.00/pair for the 60XTi.....kind of hard to turn down at that price if I go with a pair of ML's.
That is a decent price. Paid $3K for a pair of 60XT's in 2018. I don't regret it.
Look at Safe and Sound Audio. They have good prices. They also sell factory refurbished and you'd never know they are refurbished.

Safe and Sound is the shop I frequent......that's where I purchased the Yamaha A-S801 integrated a month ago. Customer return that I got for 675.00. That's
what started me down this rabbit hole of wanting to put a modern system together. I didn't mention Safe and Sound for fear someone might buy those speakers
out from under me if I wait too long....but I guess the cat's out of the bag now.....lol.

See above...lol. Their store is fantastic.....like a candy store for high end audio. I still will keep some vintage stuff as most of it still sounds great. Plus there is the aesthetics of the vintage as well as the collectable value. I used to be in the "they don't build 'em like they used to" camp. But that was before I even gave any modern stuff a listen, which was pretty dumb of me. This Yamaha A-S801 opened my eyes, I mean ears, to just how good modern stuff can sound.
Right now I have been listening to my ADS L730's with the Yamaha. I also want to hear how the Yamaha sounds with my other vintage speakers which are 2 pairs of Original Large Advents(stacked), Thiel CS2 and Ohm C2. But it sounds so good with the L730's I can't bring myself to swap them out just yet ! Can only imagine what it would sound like with the Martin Logan's if I do pull the trigger on them.

I guess the equivalent version that replaced those are the Motion XT FT200's which are like 5500.00 for a pair.

I've been listening to my new (to me) ML Motion 60 xti's. I'm liking them ALOT. After giving them some time and getting them situated, I'll try running them with an amp for the low end, and an amp for the top end. The gent I bought them from is on a quest for who know what and I quickly relieved him of them. These are about 2 years old and came in Red Walnut. Beautiful additions to my room.
